Hello,

When I emerge a new module, I get an error at the end:

>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
* Caching service dependencies... [ ok ]
>>> Auto-cleaning packages ...
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/*sys-fs/devfsd!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/*sys-fs/devfsd
>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

If I remove the devfsd my system won't boot but the error goes away. Is there a problem with my portage tree?

Thanks
Neil

You need to remove all entries within the /var/db/pkg subfolders that are named like -MERGING-, etc.

rm -rf /var/db/pkg/sys-fs/devfsd*

Actually that probably won't fix it.

I had the same error, but the problem file was in xfree86 as I had interupted it's emerge.

Besides, once you remove that portage no longer knows about devfs so you won't get any updates until it's manually remerged

I have just tried this and removing the file:

rm -rf /var/db/pkg/sys-fs/devfsd*

does not solve the problem. :(

You need to follow my instructions. Look through the pkg folder and delete any files that start with -MERGING- or similar.

You will need to re-emerge devfsd again btw.

Or try searching the forums :p

have you interrupted any emerge?
What's your exact message? it's probably another entry as the previous posters, but it's gotta be one.
if so remove that entry from /var/db/pkg/ as posted above and reemerge the package.

You also get this message if you are doing more than one emerge at the same time.
