I'm about to install gentoo, but I heard that 2006.1 is coming soon, with some considerable changes, like GCC 4.1.1.
I know I can install 2006.0 now and keep updating my system, but with GCC 4.1.1 I will need to recompile everything, don't I? Maybe it would be more convenient to wait a little if that's true, but I don't want to wait a month to get gentoo installed.
Does someone here know what is the release date? Will it be in early August? _________________ Life is a Sexually Transmitted Disease, with 100% mortality.

Gentoo is an ever-evolving system. There's no reason to wait.
Really...the only major difference between the releases is the features of the installation itself. Once installed...you can simply update everything with emerge. If you got a new version of GCC...you can simply recompile everything with an 'emerge -e system' It may take a while...but I'm sure you'd have it done before 2006.1 came out. _________________ -- Coplan
