I get the following when I do an emerge -uDp world:

faad2 and libmp4v2 why cannot both be installed? Also, why the kde packages blocking each other? Any help for this portage newbie is much appreciated!

echo "media-libs/faad2" > /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "media-libs/libmp4v2" > /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge --oneshot faad2 libmp4v2
|
As for KDE I think you should read about kde-meta and split packages. |
