I really didn't know whether this would go under Networking, Multimedia, or Kernel/Hardware, so I'm putting it here.
I just got a new printer (HP Photosmart 3200, if it matters), and I'm trying to set up CUPS with it. It is connected via Ethernet to my router, and its IP address is 192.168.0.8. My Windows system was able to print to it, and my Gentoo system can ping it just fine, so it does work. I know what driver to choose, but there is just one thing I don't know.
Which device protocol do I choose for the initial configuration? I tried ipp://192.168.0.8, but no go, and lpd://192.168.0.8/HP993264, but that didn't work either (HP993264 is the printer's hostname). I used to have this computer set up to do a print by piping it through a Windows machine, but that isn't an option now.
There is also AppSocket / HPJetDirect, but I don't even know what that is.
Any help is appreciated! _________________ Knowledge is power.

Thanks, I will check that out when I get a chance. It looks like it'll work _________________ Knowledge is power.

Interesting...I wasn't able to get it working using that tutorial, but specifying socket://192.168.0.8, it worked. Well, it pointed me in the right direction, I guess! Thanks. _________________ Knowledge is power.
