Hola.

I've been fighting this long enough, I can't find a definitive answer anywhere. There are lots of posts on this forum for getting ATI cards working with TV-Out but they either are for cards that can use the ati-drivers set (9x00+) or are non-radeon (atitvout).

I'm trying to simply get the composite out on my el cheapo ATI Radeon 7000 to stop scrolling on my TV. I can get it working fine on any monitor, but it just scrolls like crazy on the TV. I'm fairly sure it's a refresh rate issue, but nothing I've tried has had any effect other than the occaisional X not running due to a bad screen definition, or making it scroll even worse  ...

Does anyone have a working xorg/xfree config with a Monitor+Screen configuration that works on a plain old NTSC TV? No crazy HD or widescreen jobs. :)

Even better does anyone know of a resource for these older radeons? I saw GATOS but it seems abandoned, no XOrg versions to try. :(

Info:
AGP Radeon 7000
VIA KT400
Kernel gentoo-2.6.8-r1
XOrg 6.7.0-r1

I am having the same issue. Seems to be a refresh problem, but not sure. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Just a heads up...
Gatos is not abondened and they're currently moving their development to support the Xorg platform.

you can try some here:

How to make this work under Gentoo and X-org? Anyone want to make a small howto?

I have a Radeon Mobility 7500 in a laptop for which I would sincerely like to make the TV-Out work. Finding this thread reasures me that I am not alone in my quest. If anyone finds anything out I am sure we would all be eternaly greateful. Nice of ATI to abandon all their older cards, especially for those who couldn't even upgrade if they wanted to (ie: laptops!!!)

Cheers,

I've successfully had my card working with TV out via the command line with all FRAMEBUFFER stuff taken out from the kernel and using the 2.6 ATI (Rage, not Radeon) drivers in the kernel. As soon as I boot into Xorg the whole thing breaks. I have tried everything I and others can think of. Calling ATI technical support offers no help at all. Their linux support team is assinine and only answers EASY questions via email after a few days. ANything difficult and the guys brainfreeze. Anyone ever get a Radeon working with TV out even under XFree86? I would like to have it working under Xorg with 2.6 kernel and optimized video drivers, but this seems to be impossible...

This does not work for Radeon 7000 cards. It's just for 8500+ :(

Yes according to ATI, their proprietary linux drivers for 8500+ support tv-out. They also make mention that they dont plan on supporting older cards with their drivers (what kind of position is that?).
Anyway from what I have read, gatos is the only solution but I haven't had time to play with it since my last attempt which failed.
Anyone want to try making a howto ?
Cheers,
