Hi all,

I am sure that probably many of you have already heard of it - if yes, then simply stop reading and excuse the noise... BUT for those of you who have not: HINT, HINT give the ScummVM a try! (http://scummvm.sourceforge.net it is also in portage)

I myself had already heard of the scumm engine, which allows you to play most of the classic LucasArts adventures under Linux and a number of other architectures, a while ago - but I had never imagined it beeing sooo cool. :)

Monkey II, Indy4, Indy3 and Day of the Tentacle worked out of the box for me, absolutely flawlessly with full sound, Monkey I also works but without sound. (there are more games supported...)

And the best of all: you can even enable the engine to scale up the graphics (try -gsupereagle) up to 800x600 or 640x480 which look just really cool...

Sorry, but I just am totally blown away. :D I played (kinda grew up *g*) with all of these games about 10 years ago - but try running them under current versions of windows (dos?) with nowadays hardware if you haven't still a 16Bit Soundcard with MIDI support etc....forget it.

ScummVM rulez.

*gone playing*

Hi Scheuri,

Well as far as I see, there are only soundproblems when one is using the
"Monkey Island 1 (VGA floppy) [Game: monkeyvga]" version, not when using "Monkey Island 1 (CD version) [Game: monkey1]" which is fully supported.

So it didn't work for _me_ but should be working when you have Monkey 1 CD version.

The strange thing about it is the fact that I have used Monkey I off my Monkey Island Collection (CD...) but it seems like there is actually "monkey I vga floppy" on the Collection's CD!? (At least so says auto-detection and only monkeyvga seems to work)

Well I still must have some old Monkey I 3,5" Floppies floating around here somewhere - have to give it a try, who knows, maybe they will be recognized as CD version when the CD version isn't... %-)

PS: Usefull information (regarding usage installing etc.) may be found by dooing: "zless /usr/share/doc/scummvm-0.2.0-r1/readme.txt.gz" after emerging scummvm...

Sam 'n' Max Hit the Road. Awwwwwwwww, yeah.

"Gratuitous acts of senseless violence are MY forte!"

"I'm not a malefactor, I'm a lagomorph!"
...ooh, one more before I shut up.
"Max, where should we put this so it doesn't hurt anyone we know or care about?"
"Out the window, Sam. There's nothing but strangers out there."
*toss*
*BOOM!*
"...hope there was nobody on that bus."
"Nobody we know at least."
