Add

Code: Select all

PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage"
to your make.conf (in /etc/ in particular). This will add the directory to the list of places portage searches for ebuilds.

Check Bug #245322 for an ebuild for 6.1a. Place the .ebuild in /usr/local/portage/app-crypt/truecrypt (with the same name as on the bugzilla), place the non-crossed out attachments (ending in .patch) in the files subdirectory. Now go and do an "ebuild truecrypt-6.1a.ebuild digest" and follow the ...

These are mostly harmless (QA type messages) :)

In the offchance that a portage developer looks in this thread, is there a way to ignore sets provided by a certain overlay without removing the files physically? Something like set.mask (akin to package.mask)?

In reference to the strange segfaults of applications in coreutils (mainly), I have had no luck with .28, and have instead gone back to .27-zen4. It is strange however, because having tried 2.6.27 (vanilla I think) and 2.6.27-zen4 they both work (i.e. no segfaults of 'cp' or others that I've seen ...

I had (have) firefox-3.2-alpha, i.e., minefield-trunk crashing with nvidia-180 for quite some time, but firefox-2 is okay. Meanwhile, if you didn't see it before, the workaround (,I don't remember where I saw it first,) is to disable 'glitz' USE flag in cairo:
USE=-glitz emerge cairo

Thanks ...

What is the status on USE 'kdeprefix'? Is it recommended to set this flag or is it just a nice thing to have when wanting SLOTted versions of kde? The reason I'm asking, is that the bespin ebuild in kde-crazy is asking for +prefix to be set. While I understand the reason for that (live ebuild can be ...

2) Firefox 3.0.5 crashes on launch. Work around: eselect opengl set xorg-x11, launch firefox, eselect opengl set nvidia.
Are you using the binary versions or did you build it yourself? Do songbird binaries also crash? The reason I'm asking is that x86_64 firefox nightly binaries (3.1b3pre in ...

No (when I did, more than half a year ago now, there were worser issues so I switched to), xfs. I must add I've enabled heap randomisation and disabled the compat VDSO (but I doubt cp itself has an overflow bug)

I've started getting random segfaults (of cp mainly it seems, unless I do not understand the log format) ever since 2.6.28-zen1. In particular, quite a few programs would fail to emerge (because cp was broken it seemed), but always at the same location (per program). This rendered the system less ...

Re: How about --as-needed

This is a psudo serious question. Could the linker option --as-needed be considered a ricer option for a gnetoo linker flag? I do see its potential value for individual packages, but I have some doubts using it in /etc/make.conf.

Well, philosophically - it's not a ricer flag at all. With binutils ...

Good luck with getting it to run in a stable manner :lol:

I could hardly manage a hardened 4.2.1 gcc... Probably the difficulty increases exponentially when playing with a CVS compiler ;)

The last line says "Cairo needs X flag set". Could you post the output of your "emerge --info"? And have you by any chance put -X into your USE in /etc/make.conf?

If you're looking at a way to get it to look like Windows Vista, take a look at this: http://smspillaz.wordpress.com/2007/07/ ... ike-vista/

I'm aware this is for Compiz fusion, but the settings for beryl should be similar (I would recommend upgrading to compiz-fusion anyway).

Ok, for the moment I have an overlay for D which supports dmd, gdc (0.24_pre) and tango - for instructions see http://gentoo.arsfides.com/wiki

I hope to get more D projects from dsource working :)

You should rather use 2.17.50.0.18. This version fixed some problems connected with e. g. `klcc` and `strip --strip-unneeded ...
