I don't know if it helps any but I get a similar error when portage tries to upgrade to nvidia-drivers 96.43.11 from 96.43.09. Yes, I have an old card.

Because I don't have any issues, I'm going to mask the newer version but this is a bit annoying.

I'm not able to help, unfortunately, but I have exactly the same problem.

When I looked for /var/log/messages, I didn't find anything (not even the file) so I can't help with that and right now, my Gentoo box is compiling X so it will be busy for a while. :) If anyone wants to see some output from ...

Yes if you don't touch (i.e. don't format) /dev/hdb1 then all will still be on there if you decide to re-install.

I've no idea about the passwd=foo option. Why not just change the root password when the cd loads i.e. use the passwd command.
You can then start ssh and login remotely as root ...

I ran into this one too. After some offline weeks due to me moving to another city, I finally got my internet connection back. Thanks, that worked, dhcpcd4 needes a longer time I believe.

Strangely enough, it didn't work here. I downgraded to 3.2.3 but I still have an empty resolv.conf. Did version 4 get mad at being uninstalled and added a write protect to the file? :)

Seriously, though, becuase this used to "just ...

[Solved] Removing sys-libs/db-4.6.21

I've searched around but found nothing so I figure the only option left is to make a fool of myself in public so here goes...

This is really, really stupid and entirely my own fault but before I mess up any further, I tought I'd ask if anyone has any advice.

I somehow (don't ask, please) managed ...

I got this error today from Subversion 1.4.5. It does indeed say that it wants Berkeley DB 4.0.14 and there is no sign of 4.0.* in the tree.

I have 1.85-r2, 4.2.52_p4-r2, 4.3.29-r2, 4.5.20_p2 and 4.6.21 installed.

Any ideas? I'll try to look at this a bit later but I have no time right now so I ...

Re: 2.24.4

1) Yes I meant 0.24.5
2) Do you mean you got the error when you called /usr/local/bin/paludis or after you uninstalled that local copy?

I got it when I called /usr/local/bin/paludis. That's what worries me so I wonder if there is something else broken on my system.

I also tried downgrading but ...

Re: 2.24.4

paludis -if paludis

Now it downloaded the 2.24.5 tarball for you.

Now unpack it somewhere
tar xvjf /path/to/distfiles/paludis-2.24.5.tar.bz2 && cd paludis-2.24.5 && ./configure && make && make install

Now you have a 2.24.5 executable at /usr/local/bin/paludis

And since you don't want to do ...

Just to make it clear,
there are two qt libraries. qt3 that most of the programs use for now, and qt4 that may be used by some programs (kde4 will use it when it gets out). There are qt3 and qt4 useflags, too. So don't worry, the qt4 installs in a separate slot.

I knew that... No scratch that ...
