The last three times I attempted to update mythtv on my PVR box, the compilation basically stopped without an error with this output:

Every time at this point, the hard drive light is on and the drive is working mercilessly. I waited thirty minutes before CTRL-C'ing to end the compile. The compile ...

Re: Path forward with mythtv/nuvexport

mythtv-0.21 has been ~arch for some time now.

Does anyone have a feel for when it's going to go stable?

Does anyone know anything about a "mythextras" package that is supposed to be the right way to bring in nuvexport? I see in this thread that some have tweaked an ebuild for nuvexport-0.5 to go ...

KDE4 apps hang when displaying certain dialogues

Yes, I know KDE4 is masked, but I would be greally grateful if someone could help me out here. :)

What happens is that when a KDE4 app displays certain dialogues, like the 'download or save' window in KTorrent, the program and dialogue hang for 1-2 minutes before responding.

Should I be using a ...

As far as I know, only the DOS installer has sound (and you should use the Windows one). It should be named setup.exe.

The Tiberian Sun problem is known; you need a quite fast computer to run it properly, something like a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz+, and even then network play can be a bit sluggish.

As for Red Alert, how does it not install?

Ehh . . . I had forgotten that one of the PCs had two wired network cards . . .
Sorry, I feel like a complete idiot.

Now I am trying to configure one of the PCs as a router to supply the wireless-provided Internet to the rest of the network.

I connect both PCs to the hub, then I put the network settings in /etc/conf.d/net, run /etc/init.d/net.eth0 start and then make the PCs ping each other, but they never get a response, only 'destination host unreachable'. I have tried specifying the interface with the ping -I option.

Setting up a simple network

I am trying to set up a simple network between a few computers.

I have connected the hub to two PCs, and configured the two with static network settings.

IP: 192.168.0.2/3
Broadcast: 192.168.0.7
Netmask: 255.255.255.248

But they can't communicate with each other. I have tried other network ...

IPX over Wireless Network for C&C Games

A few months ago, when I had a wired network, all Command & Conquer games worked fine over network, but now with the wireless network, the players cannot see each other, although it is possible to host a network game.

They use IPX for network, and I have set the frame type in /etc/conf.d/ipx to 802 ...

We would have, but the problem is that we don't have any servers. This is being done by the students' council, and the goal is to have one computer in every classroom. Since we don't have our own server equipment (except for a Pentium Pro server with 96 MB RAM :)), we are forced to use the school's ...

Deleting devel packages to make sub-500MB system

I am building systems for some very old computers at our school. By having a script that removes the Portage tree, kernel source and some devel packages when making the final system tarballs, I have managed to press the system size down to 539 MB. However, most of the computers have 500 - 540 MB ...

Yes, testing with a monitor with a VGA cable confirms this, but even when the driver is set to output in dual-screen mode, the DVI monitor is not activated. The silly monitor I'
m trying to use doesn't have a VGA connection, though. I bought an adapter to be able to connect the DVI cable to the VGA ...

Is there any way to disable the colour cursor in Entrance? I have looked through entrance_config.db, but I can't find anything. The cursor moves very jerkily on a Pentium 166 MHz with 32 MB RAM. :)

When I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.13, glxinfo gives some more error output, but it displays all the gl extensions it should, which did not happen with 2.6.15 after the X.Org upgrade. The error messages are.

X.Org 7.1 and DRI

I have problems with DRI and Warcraft III since upgrading to X.Org 7, so I thought I might try 7.1, but now direct rendering doesn't work at all. I unmasked
x11-base/xorg-server
media-libs/mesa
x11-drivers/xf86-video-i810
and installed their latest versions.

fglrx driver doesn't detect monitor

My dad has a computer with a ATI Radeon X700 PCIe graphics card. He got a replacement card from the PC manufacturer because it had cooling issues, but now the fglrx driver doesn't detect the monitor (connected to the DVI port). I tried connecting a CRT monitor to the VGA output, and the image was ...

WM for very slow computers

Hello,

I am the head of the students' council at a secondary school in Norway. We have managed to obtain some computers that we are planning to place in various classrooms.

The slowest ones have Cyrix Concord Pentium 133MHz with 32MB RAM and ~1.62GB HDD,
while some have AMD K6 200MHz wth 64MB RAM ...

gentoo-dev-sources >2.6.5 Input Freeze

Most of the time when I boot a kernel newer than 2.6.5, it will not accept input from the keyboard and mouse, except for 3-4 occasions when it accepted the keybaord and not the mouse. This even happens on the 2004.3 LiveCD. I have tried several subversions of the following gentoo-dev-sources ...
