Re: Portage wants to rebuild packages over and over

Nobody able to help with this?

My options at this point seem to be

a) reinstall gentoo
b) change distro
c) never install anything again

I mean...

# emerge -upv ati-drivers

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild U ~] x11-drivers/ati ...

[SOLVED] Portage wants to rebuild packages over and over

Portage now wants to reinstall / recompile a few packages all the time. I suspect it's somehow related to python but I don't know.

Is there a file somewhere that I can just delete to make portage stop wanting to reinstall the "rR" market packages?

And THIS IS EVERY TIME, if I emerge -uv world then ...

I guess the culprit is not udev but udisks. I noticed the same ghost spin ups, until I ripped off all *kit and u* stuff (except eudev) from KDE. It interferes with hdparm (and smartd, and probably more). I never found a solution to let hdparm and udisks play nicely together though.

I'm using ...

Making harddrive go to sleep and never wake up

I have a brother who likes to use Windows the few times he visits. I have a harddrive just for Windows. It's also got a few other Linux distros on it. I _never_ use or need to use this drive while using Gentoo Linux. I would like to make this harddrive go to sleep and never wake up.

If I do hdparm ...

Install qca-ossl. This is a Gentoo bug, not a KDE bug, the builds do not have qca-ossl as dep.

did you carefully follow the directions about the
pam upgrade at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/pam/upgrade-0.99.xml ?

Yes. I do find it a bit strange that there is no mention of how permissions are actually set they used by be set by console.perms in previous versions, though.

I have no ...

USB devices only usable as root (PAM "upgrade", ud

I am no longer able to use USB devices such as my scanner and my camera as a normal user (works as root, but I would like to not have to run digikam and kooka and such as root).

The user is a member of the plugdev and usb groups.

I noticed this problem after "upgrading" to sys-libs/pam-0.99.9.0 ...

The exit nodes

Bob P, those sound like some valid points, is there way way to find out how many routers there are and who they're controlled by? Couldn't every node log the other nodes it's connected to, and send this info to a central server, a roadmap of the network. I know this defeats the purpose of the ...

BitlBee http://www.bitlbee.org/ is a very smooth IRC Gateway for MSN / ICQ / Jabber / Yahoo.

Gray Screen with xdm and && IPv6 caused Login Troubl

I've used this for quite a while and I was quite annoyed with this, out of the blue, stopped working (because I had recompiled XFree).

XFree must be compiled without IPv6 support. Xdmcp does not work if XFree is compiled with IPv6 support.

ip6tables v1.2.9 missing ip6tables-save script

I've got IPv6 up and running on my LAN. When I wanted to use ip6tables to secure my problems I ran into some trouble.

When I tried to save the rules with

/etc/init.d/ip6tables save

like I did when first using iptables I found that

ip6tables-save and ip6tables-restore are missing. (when ...
