Re: What is the best CFLAGS for my processor?

Hello, I'm using a Pentium III Coppermine 797 Mhz.

What would be the best settings for my CFLAGS and would it really matter? I'm using the default CFLAGS:

CFLAGS="-02" -march=pentium3 -fomit-frame-pointer
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

thanks

I would quote the entire CFLAGS ...

Another data point:

I went through and did a emerge -upD ${i} on every package that emerge -upD world was trying to downgrade and not a single one of them suggested I do anything (4.2.1/4.2.1.1 is correct, no 4.2.0 downgrade needed). I think I'll try rebuilding every package with the same for i in ...

I'm still befuddled by this. I've manually updated all the other packages but XFCE thinking that one of them had a dependency that was forcing the 4.2.0 downgrade. No-Go, emerge -upD world still wants to downgrade 4.2.1/4.2.1.1 to 4.2.0 on a emerge -upD world. I've emptied packages.unmask and ...

Interesting, I can comment out/remove all the XFCE entries from package.unmask, but I must continue to have each XFCE entry in /etc/portage/package.keywords or it will dep-fail. Interestingly, it depfails on the 4.2.1 version, but as I went through and uncommented all my package.keywords one by one ...

So do you ONLY have xfce4 ~x86 in your make.conf or were you saying that you also have that? I also have quite a few entries in /etc/portage/package.unmask back from when 4.2.0 was masked. The XFCE entries look like this:

xfce-base/xfce4
xfce-base/xfwm4
xfce-base/libxfce4mcs
xfce-base/libxfce4util ...

XFCE4 4.2.1 wanting to downgrade on -upD world? [SOLVED]

I've got /etc/portage/package.keywords to ~x86 on xfce4* and package.unmask on xfce4* and emerge -upD world wants to downgrade to 4.2.0 from 4.2.1 and 4.2.1.1 (panel + other). I'm not sure why I'm getting this even after the upgrade to 4.2.1.1 happened for xfce4-base and -panel.

Anyone else seeing ...

I'm still getting spurious e001 and e059, but they don't seem to be detrimental. I think they are based around the space bar and return key.

Microsoft Wireless Explorer Elite Keyboard and Mouse

I recieved this set for Christmas and am loving it. I've spent quite a bit of time getting it configured for Linux and have documented some of the stuff I've found at http://rob.thesnows.org/index.php?p=30

The issues I still have involve:

1) Scroll wheel on the keyboard. It doesn't work even after ...

I don't know if there is a way to make them disappear completley when hidden outside of not starting them.

I'm trying to get a unified bar ala KDE so I don't have to have one at top and one at bottom. Any ideas on that?

I don't think my drivers 'suck', I'm using nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r3 and they seem rock solid. I've tried both the xcompmgr that is on the page with the patch (2.4) and the Gentoo portage version of 1.1 and 1.1.1. They seem raise hell with panel even when "don't do panel" is on. It also seems to get ...

Thanks for the link, that's exactly what I was looking for. It's quite unstable (the xcompmgr part), but at least it lets me see what the environement will look like with dynamic tranparency. Very cool!

Dynamic transset (Raise/Lower) in KDE?

I assume I'm using the wrong search strings, but I can't find any info on changing the transparency on a window dynamically. I'd like for a foreground window to have little to no tranparency and windows without focus to be at some lower level. Is there/where is the tool to do this in KDE?

Oh, I'm ...

Excellent thread and solution.

I would like to add that the stuff you need to edit is in /etc/xinetd.d/imap and friends. Comment out the log_onfailure and log_onsuccess lines.

This is for slow startup of uw-imap.

Veto, can I still use the distcc binaries that you provide even though I have changed to linux26-headers, glibc for nptl?

The tool-chain has been rebuilt and is now with the latest stable Cygwin with Gentoo stable binutils-2.14.90.0.8-r1, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.3.

It can be found at the normal place:
