I suggest trying a couple linux native 3D games to see how they perform. Quake4 demo, Enemy Territory, UT2K4 demo, etc.

The first thing that pops out at me is you are running AGP. Take a look at the following wiki, specifically the section about AGPVertexRam.

Have you tried any linux native games? Wondering if this is a Wine/Cedega only problem...

Also, what's the rest of your system specs?

Confirmed going ~amd64 or ~x86 with vmware-workstation works as well -- the unstable ebuild applies a similar any-any patch during emerge -- vmware-any-any-update99 as opposed to the one I linked vmware-any-any-update101.

Thanks for the tip sedorox! :)

Thanks Tiger for this kernel patch, running GREAT here! :D

@dA_CyANIDe, I had the same problem with VMware even when trying the replacement tars provided.
Just fixed it by applying the following update I found in the VMware Forums:

I threw together a portage overlay of the latest ati-drivers that work on my system running this kernel. Simply uncompress the archive in /usr/local/portage then emerge ati-drivers. If you don't have portage overlay setup yet, it's an option in /etc/make.conf.

Here's the link:

I have the same problem. The only way I've found to fix it is to Ctrl-Alt-F1 out to console, then Alt-F7 back.
Odd part is I tried to take a screenshot of my own to show the corruption and the weirdness doesn't show up with either Gimp or scrot!

I'm running the fglrx 3.14.6 drivers on my ATI 9800 ...

problem with emerge -uDv world

I already have 'media-video/ati-drivers ~x86' in /etc/portage/package.keywords. Everytime I try to do an emerge -uDav world, portage wants to downgrade my ati-drivers from 3.14.6 to 3.14.1. What am I missing?

thanks,

Dunno if it's simply a typo in your post, but the mode should be specified as follows:
1280x1024@85
or you can specify the colour depth like so:
1280x1024-32@85

If you want to use a mode other than the default, here's what my kernel paramaters look like:
kernel=/2.6.9-rc2-love4 video=vesafb ...

Re: Interrupt lost

Ok, so I have experianced this problem before using a VIA-chipset motherboard with SATA. That motherboard had so many other flaws that i got it changed to a nForce anyway.

Now with the 2.6.2-love1 kernel I get interrupt lost when booting without the "ACPI=off" parameter. This does not happen with ...

Now that all that ...

I think Wedge found half your problem -- you need to toggle off DRM support. What I normally do is leave the [*] next to Direct Rendering Manager but simply don't make a selection below it. :)

The "Sync out of range (180hz)" error is probably due to your selection of the Radeon frame buffer driver ...

After you copied in your old .config, did you run "make oldconfig" before "make all && make modules_install" ?

If you didn't that's likely to be your problem...

modprobe fglrx

Try those two commands after emerge ati-driver
Does the fglrx module load ok? Check with lsmod

The problem is right there in your glxinfo report, 2nd line. You should have direct rendering enabled.
