Gwenview 1.3.91: Can't rename files

Using Gwenview 1.3.91, I'm not able to rename pictures by choosing 'rename' (or pressing 'F2'). It produces an error quoting 'Could not delete file', followed by a 'Copy File(s) Progress' dialog, stalling at 0%. Funny enough I can rename pictures by choosing 'Move To...' (or pressing 'F8').

Anyone ...

I had two systems running with coreutils 5.94, using the same useflags ("acl nls"), the same portage settings (as reported with "emerge --info"), the same locale, just differing in CPU related flags (AMD vs. Intel) and non-NPTL vs. NPTL (which shouldn't make any difference in this context).

Both ...

Same for me. I have Portage 2.1_pre4-r1 installed on two machines, with one working fine, the other breaking builds with "configure: error: invalid feature name:" (I tried enchant, sylpheed, mpeg4ip). The settings in "emerge info" are the same, just differing in CPU specific optimizations (AMD vs ...

Another problem I have noticed is that r300_dri.so has not been built.
As far as I know, r300_dri.so is only part of the Mesa-CVS, which hasn't been merged to the Xorg-CVS yet. For DRI, you need to compile yourself a kernel-driver - just have a look at this thread . As it is a very quick moving ...

It opens a new Session. Looking at the output of 'ps', all the processes from the former session disappeared completely.

Switching from Xorg to qingy and back

Switching from an Xorg-Session to a qingy and back seems to terminate my Xorg-Sessions, since I'm getting back to the qingy-login-screen.

Nonetheless, I can switch from Xorg to qinqy to start another Xorg-Session - as long as I'm switching only between those two sessions, everything is fine. As ...

and if... what is better/faster?
1) dri over the r300 project
2) ati-driver?

That depends on what you need. The binary ATI drivers will over you a (more) solid and complete 3D acceleration, which is also worlds faster than the r300 implementation in most cases.

The Open Source drivers offer you ...

And what about suspend/resume?

As the README to this release describes again, suspend and resume won't work in most cases. As it hasn't with the driver before. And before. And before. "We are working on it". Playing with vbetool, you might succeed - or not. Anyone checked this release if there is any progress in that context? The ...

Two wireless cards up at the same time?

While I was compiling a new kernel for my Notebook and switching to udev (which all worked pretty fine), I came to the idea of having two WLAN NICs up at the same time. Wondering if it is possible, I started ath0 (which is an integrated Atheros based card) to associate with my AP in my home network ...

Re: How to swsusp2 + encrypted swap partition ???

The necessary hints are in the softwaresuspend howto .
All the swsusp2 stuff should be compiled as modules, and a proper initrd has to be setup.

Can someone explain in detail, how to set up this initrd and the necessary kernel-options, to make this work?
As I'm thinking about encrypting my laptop ...

KDE 3.3 and icon grid

After updating to KDE 3.3, the grid when aligning the icons on the desktop is too huge in it's vertical direction. I didn't have this problem with KDE 3.2.3, and I know others do have this problem, too.

See here for an example:

Troubles with audio: Vaio GRX, ALSA and cpudyn (Linux 2.6.x)

It seems to be a never ending story: Proper sound on my Sony Vaio notebook (GRX-416G).

Using Linux 2.6.3 and ALSA, the sound is crappy and noisy, sometimes "overlapping", like an echo.

After compiling several kernel versions, I hunted down the problem to the use of cpudyn . Without cpudyn enabled ...

Safe to remove NPTL support?

As I'm experiencing some minor problems on my laptop which I want to hunt down, I was thinking about disabling NPTL on my system to exclude another possible source of misbehaviour.

So my question is whether it is safe to remove "nptl" from my useflags (afterwards compiling glibc again) - or not ...

2.6.1-mm2 / bootsplash: strange messages in dmesg

After patching 2.6.1-mm2 with bootsplash-3.1.3-2.6.0-test9.diff and fixing the rejects in fb.h, bootsplash works as it used to do with 2.6.0-mm1 or earlier 2.4.x kernels.

There's just one difference, and that is the following output I can see when calling dmesg :

bootsplash 3.1.3-2003/11/14 ...

It's working like a charm, I put a screenshot on http://www.basquiat.de/gallery/album08/aab . Where did you get that splash image?
If you look closely at the bottom right of the picture you'll see that it was taken from here and then modified to suit the gentoo theme.

Ok, I have solved the tetex problem at my site. As described at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14709 I have used the "revdep-rebuild" command, after doing so I was able to emerge tetex. Maybe you first want to do a "revdep-rebuild -- -p" to see what it will reemerge.
