I decided to just give it a go and went ahead and enabled KMS last night, disabled PAE, upgraded xorg to 1.6.1 and updated intel driver to 2.7.0. GEM and UXA are now working, I can switch between X and console without any graphical glitches or hangs and nothing seems to be broken at ...

I have not been keeping up with the latest developments, and I am trying to gather information across the internets in regards to this, but there is quite a breadth of differences.

apparently i needed to switch the order in /etc/hosts so that my self appointed hostname was listed before localhost

What does /var/log/Xorg.0.log have to say even though it didn't have any errors? It should have mentioned something about loading dri and then looking for devices which support it and the final status of dir yea or nay. Also I seem to recall that DRI will not be enabled when an onboard gfx ...

I've installed elisa-0.5.6 as well as the good bad and ugly gst-plugins. When I start elisa, I see the splash screen, then an all black window loads up and I have to Alt+F4 to close it as nothing else is responsive.

I enabled Kernel Mode Switching for my intel gma4500, and upgraded to the newest xorg and intel driver and now mplayer doesn't go to full screen properly.

If I use the xv driver as I had been doing, the video gets scrunched to the left of my screen, leaving the rest black.

If I use x11, the video ...

I don't know what else could have caused this issue apart from these upgrades, but i cannot get mplayer to properly fullscreen anymore.

Using Anholt's latest kernel didn't really fix anything

libdrm is 9999 from x11 overlay (also tried with 2.4.5)
dri2proto is 1.99.2
and intel driver is 2.6.3
mesa is 9999

my kernel is actually form anholt's drm-intel branch, 2.6.29-rc6

I will look around some change logs see if he's implemented anything new...

Went ahead and enabled KMS yesterday. X refuses to start with such a configuration.

My only changes were to remove all framebuffer drivers (VGA and VESA) and enable mode switching for i915. X just gives me a black screen from which the only escape is SysRq+B

Any ideas?

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 and am running 64bit on GCC-4.3.3. I currently have as my Cflags "-march=nocona -O2 -pipe" But read that I can use "-march=core2" with this GCC version.

Would there be any reasonable difference in anything if I were to change this and recompile world and system ...

sometimes, usually when loading an image, firefox will look corrupted (either white with colored lines running through it, or will rearrange what should be normally painted in blocks) this happens with other applications too

just installed xorg-server-1.6.0 and xf86-video-intel-9999 and along with anholt's drm-intel kernel, all is working really smooth now when previously compiz was an unusable lag

even motion blur works now


oh, this is on an intel gma 4500 chip with the i915 kernel module

Getting 404's from all the servers on that one when trying to emerge xorg-server-1.6.0


edit: got randrproto from a different location and installed it, now emerge fails on inputproto-9999 saying xorg-macros.m4 is too old
