So everything in my current PC is four or five years old (i7, GT660, 16GB, 120GB SSD, etc.), except for the Sound Blaster Live! card, which I've hung onto now for about eighteen years. The card is still working great, but we're reaching the point now where the PCI slot that accommodates is rapidly ...
I just upgraded my GPU from an ancient Geforce 8400 to a 730. These are the connections: HDMI -> Monitor DVI -> TV If the TV is not connected, everything is working fine.
However, when the TV is connected and the system is booted, the text in KDE appears incredibly large, making most apps ...
I've just bought a "TP-LINK 150Mbps Wireless N Nano USB Adapter" (Model No. TL-WN725N). Below is how Linux identifies the device:
dmesg (immediately after plugging it in): [ 948.016228] usb 4-4: USB disconnect, device number 3 [ 954.913645] usb 4-4: new high-speed USB device number 4 ...
Thanks, equery d pulseaudio didn't show any packages depending on pulseaudio, but I noticed afterwards that I had pavucontrol installed and in my world file, since I had been trying to use it to solve pulseaudio problems before. Removing this package did the trick.
I ran emerge -C pulseaudio , then added "-pulseaudio" to my use flags, but when I run emerge --update --deep --newuse @world , it still wants to install pulseaudio. I don't even know why I should use pulseaudio, it seems to do nothing but cause problems and my system has always been fine before ...
Are you certain the GTK problem is related to your Skype capture problem? GTK is the API for graphical user interfaces, so I'd guess the two problems are not related.
If you've definitely followed the procedure to make sure that PulseAudio's input has Capture enabled, then I'm not sure what else to suggest.
In my case, recording in Audacity was also working, but not with Skype. The reason is that Audacity can capture audio directly from the microphone without ...
Well, I "solved" the problem myself. Apparently, the keyboard audio only works when connected to the USB ports on the top of my case, but not the ones on the back. I don't really have any explanation for that, but I'm happy that it's working now.
I'm trying to do an emerge -uDva world and I'm encountering problems in the linking phase of hugin-2013.0.0 . The problem seems to be related to Boost. Here is the output near the end containing the errors:
Linking CXX executable autooptimiser cd /var/tmp/portage/media-gfx/hugin-2013.0.0-r1/work ...
I recently setup Gentoo on my parents PC after their Windows 7 got trashed by some virus. Anyway, they're really liking Gentoo, but my dad said he was missing the ability to open a .torrent file from Firefox automatically with Vuze. Personally, I've always been content with saving .torrent ...
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post as it's not specifically Gentoo related (although the system to which the drives are connected is indeed running Gentoo :)).
Anyway, over a number of years, I've built up a fairly large collection of external USB hard drives after running out of ...
I'm guessing it's not possible to actually select my own colours for these things then? Ideally, this is what I was hoping to do, but reducing the intensity rather than setting it to zero is definitely better than it was and also better than nothing. :)
I've just switched over from using KATE to KDevelop as my development environment. It seems that KDevelop has more detailed syntax highlighting than KATE. I created a screenshot here to show what KDevelop looks like on my system using my highlighting settings from KATE.
Strangely, I found out that my cheap mini USB Logitech wireless mouse does work, so I have been using that as a workaround. I don't know why it should be different as I thought all USB mice were pretty much standardised as far as drivers are concerned ...
I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can type the euro symbol (€) and British pound symbol (£) when using the dvorak keyboard layout (setxkbmap dvorak)?
Seems like it should be pretty simple, but I can't find any information about this.
It is not possible to power off the TV every time I boot the PC because the TV is often used for other purposes at the same time (e.g. other family members watching TV or playing Wii).
I was not able to find any of the DVI cables with a switch that you suggested either.
I recently bought a new TV to replace my ageing CRT. I've connected the DVI output of the nVidia GeForce 8400GS to the TV, whilst the VGA output is connected to the monitor.
Problem is, when I boot the PC, the POST and Linux boot/console screens only show on the TV and not on the monitor ...
