Grub fails after Windows boot.

I have a dual boot XP-64 Gentoo system using SATA drives (VIA Chipset)

Every time I re-boot into windows it somehow destroys the MBR and causes grub to crash and reboot, sending the system into a loop. There is no error message, it goes to boot the drive then the 3 keyboard lights flash and it ...

Start pulling hardware out of it, drives, ram, even eventually the video to see if you can get a beep.. then try to determine whats causing the problem.

If that doesn't work, inspect the board closely, look for burn marks.. check the pins in the memory very closely, its hard to notice a black one.

ls: /dev/hda: No such file or directory

So.. where did my hard disk go? Bios sees it.. 2.6.15 sees it.. hmmm..

[solved] RAID fails to boot in 2.6.17

I may have a problem here my RAID array is very old. (3+ ? years)

I use /dev/md0 (raid0) as a root device, On upgrading from 2.6.15 to 2.6.17 my system will no longer boot. I recently installed mdadm and it says I have no identity information.

# mdadm -D /dev/md0

I can't figure out what is wrong with my wine install? My fonts are unreadable and messed up. I have deleted my ~/.wine folder and this still happens however.. it does NOT look this way when I run wine as root. Help me please. :(

Thats right. I have 84 packages unmasked to ~amd64 right now. I have run ~ppc for almost 4 years solid.. sure I've had hair pulling moments but nothing that was a show stopper.

Alright sanity rules the day.. I'll say at so called "stable"

~amd64, worth the risk?

Looking at the size of my package.keywords file.. I'm wondering if I should just move the entire system over to unstable. Last year when I originally installed gentoo on my AMD64, I created a base install image and tested unstable with a backup copy and it wouldn't compile the system.. that made me ...

sad to say audio latency is purty extreme even with the Low Latency and Preemption patches. its anoying but barable (sometimes) you defenataly want to use the gentoo-sources for this one.

or you can patch the vanilla yourself with a lock breaking patch, thre is some info about there here. http ...
