Thank you for this thread!

Same problem here -- ssh consistently had a 25second delay before connections would succeed.
Like you, I had "UsePam yes" in my sshd config. Flipping it to "no" & restarting sshd resolved the problem.

The system's uptime is 2 months, so it's possible that rebooting ...

I've just encountered the same problem in chromium and Virtualbox, it's happened after a wine application crashed, reducing my X resolution. Fixed the resolution with xrandr, but the fonts are tiny. I'll post if I can solve short of a restart / restart of X.

Bash PgUp and PGDown behaviour in Gentoo

Where is the behaviour of PgUp and PgDown in Bash set?* I absolutely love it, and want to port it to my .bashrc so that I can have it in other distros and environments.

You should also bear in mind the power usage of a Pentium-3 machine compared to a modern Atom (or similar) platform.

My Atom-330-based machine effectively paid for itself after a few months, since I was able to switch off the Pentium-4 that it replaced.

Ok, I found the problem...forcefsck is working, but aborting the second it hit's any errors. I think the newest util-linux changed the behavior of fsck, so it aborts with the options it's given in the openrc fsck init script.

I'm having trouble where fsck isn't happening at shutdown. I wonder if ...

Does anyone have any suggestions for an address book for me to use? My requirements are the following:

it must support at least every single field KAddressBook supported in 4.3,
it must support fully-configurable views (i.e. I should be able to choose ...

You don't have to re-build glib with -O0. (only hal)

No offence, but generally bugs lead to packages getting masked, or the newer versions coming out of ~arch quicker. :(

Juist for anyone else who happens by this post -

If you have a ~/.inputrc, readline will ignore /etc/inputrc.

Thus, you lose all your fancy defaults :-o

=> get rid of ~/.inputrc, or copy the contents if /etc/inputrc into it.

Es liegt an der glib. Scheinbar gehen meine CFLAGS, welche mit GCC 4.3 wunderbar gehen, mit GCC 4.4 nicht mehr richtig mit glib (rest des systems aber schon)

I discovered that I was using gcc-4.1.2, so I'm going to try to switch to 4.3.2 and emerge -e world.

I have already tried re-building hal and glib using gcc-4.3.2, so this is a long shot

Code: Select all

sofabox ~ # gcc-config -l

 [2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.3.2 *
