okay, here's something:

When people do brute force attacks, they'll probably be doing it from a compromised box (one would assume) so would it be possible to do a "return fire" attack, with the intention of getting rid of whatever is running on the system to automatically brute force you (and maybe ...

if you want to be cheap and nasty and don't mind using bugzilla ebuilds that aren't in portage, my logitech quickcam messenger (usb) works well enough. I think about a year ago, some ISPs were giving them away for free, and you can get them on kelkoo for £10 last time I checked. The colours aren't ...

I (along with a whole bunch of users) had the *exact* same problem, so someone made an ebuild.... I assume you're trying to do it manually, because last time I checked, the ebuild wasn't in portage so we had to use the bugzilla ebuild

[Script]: Add bloggers to your livejournal friends list

[Script]: Add bloggers to your livejournal friends list

I wrote this script because most of my contacts are on LiveJournal and so I have them added to my friends list. Unfortunately, you can't add people to your friends list unless they're on LJ themselves

Instructions:
1) emerge jlj
2) set up ...

I don't know the last time I actually sat there and *watched* something compiling! *love*

When I first got into gentoo, I thought "OMG! KDE3.4 comes out on my birthday! I bet I could get it on that release date" and I thought *that* was bleeding edge (compared to my friend's suse 9.0 disks which ...

I will try to see if I can get arts to work without external fetches.

if all my other ebuilds need external fetches or whatever, isn't it going to be easier to get it working properly, with everything I need?

If I put a symlink into /usr/portage, then start again from scratch, do you think that ...

* HOME is /var/tmp/portage/homedir and DISTDIR is /var/tmp/portage/homedir/.subversion/auth/svn.ssl.server

I can't think of anything that might be wrong there because it managed to install unsermake from the kde-svn repository

Sorry for the long time for a reply. I'm actually putting new power ...

Okay, forgive me for being n00bish, but I wanna get me some kde-svm action

Now I'm afraid I'm not a developer, and I've never used CVS or subversion before, but I don't think that has anything to do with why the package was masked in the first place. What do I need to do?

Do you have userpriv ...

Okay, forgive me for being n00bish, but I wanna get me some kde-svm action (especially kicker, which I've heard has some cool drag and drop features) buuuut I'm having problems. Initially it said unsermake was masked for anything GREATER than kde-base/unsermake-0.4.20050628 because it doesn't work ...

whenever I do things like this, I always test as root first, then put an entry in /etc/fstab so that users can follow my lead (see later for my theory on why)

so I would:

$ su
# fdisk -l

^^^this is THE most useful hack I've ever seen.
It lists all the formattable (and therefore mountable ...

I seem to remember that when I installed winXP x64 beta on my machine, it let me install halfway down the disk without a boot partition at the beginning. Is there any way to get windows backed up to one of your shared partitions and reinstall XP without the initital boot partition?

While I'm waiting for the tarball to be made, I just had an idea. Is there any way to create a pipe (or entire plumbing system, in this case) so that the data is passed through md5sum at the same time as it's being written to disk? That way, you don't have to read the whole thing off the disk again ...

Okay, I've already used this script to do a clone of my AMD box onto the HDD of an old Pentium3 that I decapitated. I did it by plugging the old HDD into the new comp, and it got my old box bootable again, and after some tapping away, I managed to test SSH on it. This was quite a while back and I ...

I don't know if this is gonna be useful, but on my Nvidia NF4 motherboard, the sound goes fuzzy if I have PCM too loud (in KMix) even if I have the other controls low. Try messing with your mixer levels and seeing what happens. *shrug* I also noticed that my sound screws itself sometimes when I'm ...

"kernel does not support either devfs or udev"

I'd be interested on how this one resolves itself because I got the same problem and I recognise the error. Unfortunately, I can't quote you the exact error because I haven't got mouse support on the command line working yet because I've only just gotten vesa working (VGA=791 is *not* the same as ...
