Kdenlive adding black

  • Quote

Post by grooveman » Tue Jun 25, 2019 3:33 pm

Hi.

I haven't used this in several months, and it looks like there have been big changes to kdenlive, so maybe I'm missing something here...

What I'm trying to do is this:

1) Use recordmydesktop to create a short video
2) edit that video in kdenlive.

The clip is 10 seconds long... yet every time I render it, it adds roughly 16 minutes of black frames after the clip. Yielding a huge file, and extending render times. I even tried converting the .ogv file to an mp4 and importing it that way. I've stripped the thing down to remove all transitions and effects... (I just import the clip, and go straight to render) and i still add hundreds of black frames (maybe thousands, not counting here) at the end of the file.

I even went so far as to take the output of this and fed it back into kdenlive, clipped out the black frames and re-rendered, and of course, it added them back. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm trying to output to a webm or mp4 format. The result is the same: several minutes of unwanted black frames.

I can't seem to find any way to produce just a 10 second clip here. I even went to the properties of the clip on the timeline, and dropped the duration slightly... but it just gets ignored. I've reviewed every setting in kdenlive... I don't see what I could be missing....

I'm following the kde plasma 17.1 profile now. I'm running kde-apps/kdenlive-19.04.2

No, actually.

It is adding black frames to the end of clip... it isn't all black. The first 10 seconds is my clip, but instead of ending at 10 seconds, it tacks on 16 minutes of black frames at the end.

I'm on the latest kdenlive and mlt in portage as of this moment... it is still doing the same thing. It wants over an hour to render a 10 second clip, because it is adding a ton of black frames to the end of the render...

Hmm.. this is still not working.

I tried backing down again to kde-apps/kdenlive-18.12.3... but the same thing that drove me to upgrade persists...

Every time I put a video clip on the timeline, then click on that clip, kdenlive crashes.... 100% replicable... the error output on the terminal is:

Code: Select all

GL error 0x501 at resource_pool.cpp:127
KCrash: Application 'kdenlive' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit

QSocketNotifier: Invalid socket 81 and type 'Exception', disabling...
QSocketNotifier: Invalid socket 68 and type 'Read', disabling...
QSocketNotifier: Invalid socket 85 and type 'Read', disabling..
When I disable GLX, the problem abates, but then I'm stricken with the same bug that you referenced earlier.

I downloaded the latest appimage.... that has some issues as well (most notably, that it will not keep my windows window panes scaled when I stretch them -- they keep snapping back to their original position), but it does render. It doesn't support ogv files, but while I find that surprising, it isn't a deal-killer... but I cannot work on a video with that tiny, postage stamp-sized preview pane.

Since both 18.12.3 and 19.04.2 are not viable (and those are the only two versions in the current portage tree), it appears that Kdenlive is currently broken in Gentoo... I will file a bug report.

G

I just installed this. This version produces a usable output....

Both this version, and the latest appimage from kde do not exhibit the a fore mentioned problems. It seems that both versions in portage need to be updated...

Great, that means update to kdenlive-19.04.3 will fix your issue automatically.

Thanks.
