With great sadness we have learnt that Phil Marquis, a.k.a Mike Hunt, has passed away from lung cancer on the 11th June. He was a passionate Gentoo user and helping other users on the forums had become a full time occupation that he loved.
He will be sorely missed as a well respected and extremely helpful member of the forums. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Sorry to hear this, a great loss to his friends and family, but also to the Gentoo community. Found many of his posts very useful. _________________ "Ubuntu" - an African word meaning "Gentoo is too hard for me". |

I cannot tell how many severe bug reports I would exchange against this one !
I enjoyed each post from him on this message board as each was showing that IT was only a small part of his competence and human dimension.
could peace be with him and all those he was caring after. |

Over the last year, his passion for the community was unparalleled. I enjoyed sparring with him and I'll miss him.

Wow, I am totally shocked by this news. Mike (Phil) always had a helpful post for those of us in need. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by his friends and family and by everyone who frequents these forums on a regular basis. He helped so many of us diligently with patience and good ideas !
Never gave up on a problem of a gentoo user which is how most of us
have come to know him.
Unexpected and very sad. |

whoa whoa whoa. of all the people. this just seems random and surreal. never really expect it to happen to someone you chat with semi-regularly.
you will be missed. i enjoyed our chats immensely buddy, and can't thank you enough for the time you've spent on here helping me and others. I have no doubt you will be missed by those close even moreso than here - may you find repose in Valhalla. It will be strange not seeing you around, but wherever you are I hope you are at peace, and that your family and friends find that same peace for themselves after your passing. |

More of a lurker here than a poster, but always enjoyed his posts and good advice.

Shocker....
He was a wonderful asset to these forums. I had sent him a pm a couple months back just thanking him for answering so many questions posed by users (new users especially). He went above and beyond with his help.
