Is it just me, my system, (or the phase of the moon ) but is the ebuild script for PHP broken with respect to nls and gettext?
4.2.1-r1 (and the others I've looked at) dosn't seem to work in the manner it was intended. It assumes that gettext is compiled in by default, and only configures the build without-gettext when nls isn't present.
However the php configure then doesn't use gettext by default. Thus it doesn't get compiled in. (My <?phpinfo()?> output confirms no gettext)
If I change the ebuild script thus
Code: | < use nls && myconf="${myconf} --with-gettext"
---
> use nls || myconf="${myconf} --without-gettext" |
it works.
Am I right? Should the ebuild be changed? Will the world be a better place with nls support in my php build?... |

You're probably right. File a bug report stating the package (dev-lang/php-4.2.1-r1), the problem (USE variable -> configure options borked), and the solution (change from positive to negative). _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |
