After using Fluxbox for a long time I am giving Gnome a try. I have it up and running with Gnome, and man is it sweet. What I would like though is to be able to do is remove all of the panels so that I have a blank canvas desktop where I can just place some icons. |

so try i believe there is a option to remove a panel on the right click on a panel.
you can also try xfce4, it `s something like a gnome stripped down of everything useless and nautilus as desktop manager instead of xfdesktop. |
