Just give a try to Deadline and Anticipatory IO Scheduler If You are using CFQ now.
Imho is better to use one of them here :) but it`s <imho>

I see that some people has a crashes with Genetic Anticipatory IO Scheduler during Shutdown/Halt. If You have "oops" then use another IO Scheduler than Genetic Anticipatory. Please check this post also - possible update to version 0.4 here and I hope no any oppses with genetic anticipator now.

available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/love-sources or http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=100074&package_id=107958&release_id=305299
check also http://www.love-sources.org
for support please join #love-sources on freenode
possible updates also here : http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/index.php?path=love-sources%2F2.6.11-rc4-love1/

latest updade is : http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/love-sources/2.6.11-rc4-love1/2.6.11-rc4-love1-upd04-to-rc5.diff.bz2
Code:

/ aplly on top of 2.6.11-rc4-love1 //
2.6.11-rc4-bk2 >> 2.6.11-rc5-bk0
genetic lib , anticipatory , io sched from 0.3 to 0.4
reverse of mm`s bk-xfs
reverse of mm`s bk-usb (to avoid possible oops)
setting genetic lib & anticipatory OFF as default ( to avoid propably problems with genetic as)
bk-alsa from alsa-project.org
it-821x.diff ( replacing mm`s patch a gentoo-dev patch )

have a nice day;)

It's working perfectly here, with hyperthreading enabled! I'm experimenting with different block schedulers now, genetic anticipatory looks interesting. Best kernel I've used in a while, thanks!

Working fine so far (30 minutes), p4 HT/SMT enabled :) Audio skipping improved alot (only 1 skip while moving a few gigabytes to the reiser4 partition)/X slowdown problems while using reiser4 are completely fixed (using Enlightenment DR17, I used to be able to see the dropshadow on the background before the window appeared when moving files to the reiser4 partition etc). Good job :)

THX & nice vrln :) If You want do some testing with interactivity You may try also less base_timeslice settings like 32,16,8 etc. via /proc/sys/kernel/base_timeslice .

If You mean :
2.6.11-rc4-love1 menuconfig wrote:

Shared driver code for IEEE 802.11b wireless cards based on
Intersil Prism2/2.5/3 chipset. This driver supports so called
Host AP mode that allows the card to act as an IEEE 802.11
access point.

then Yes :) It`s in bk-netdev.patch from 2.6.11-rc3-mm2

Location: -> Device Drivers -> Networking support -> Network device support (NETDEVICES [=y]) -> Wireless LAN (non-hamradio) -> Wireless LAN drivers (non-hamradio) & Wireless Extension

cheers.

Wow!

I'm rather impressed looking at the info here. Even builtin madwifi drivers! Guess I will give this one a go.

Unfortunately my system just locked up after about ~5 hours of uptime. It was neat while it worked though. Seems like it was too early to say it worked after all. No idea what caused it, since there's nothing in the logs. I'd quess it's related to SMP though (seems like single CPU people (or non HT p4) haven't had any problems with Nicksched) - anyone using this with SMP/SMT (p4)?

Yes I haven`t any
Code:

Enterprise ~ # uptime
 18:37:36 up  9:58, 10 users,  load average: 4.68, 4.93, 5.4

You have x86 box ? . If You think that it may be Nicksched SMP related problem I will mail Nick Piggin with some info about this for having better next NickSched version etc. :)

cheers.

I've managed to get this kernel compiled here is my prioblem :

Everything works fine, except one thing, my nVidia Card (Asus Ti 4400 128MB AGP 4x) My CPU is a Pentium4 Prescott and I have 2GB of Memory.

The same driver was working with hardened-dev-sources 2.6.10*

Here's the error :

Use the ~x86 version of the nvidia drivers. (kernel -r3 && glx -r5)

Cid420@tuxcafe : exactly as NiLuJe said -> use nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r3 not r1.

Damn, it was working fine for a while, then crashed :(. It seems to happen whenever there's any significant disk or memory usage (both crashes occurred while I was emerging something). It was a pretty serious crash too, it corrupted my Reiser4 partition and I had to fsck and then reinstall Xorg. First time I've seen something like that happen with R4.

Anyway, I'm back to 2.6.10-nitro2, which is the last kernel that worked properly for me. Staircase doesn't seem to do that much worse with Reiser4 than O(1) or Nicksched, and I still suspect Nicksched has issues with SMP and Hyperthreading.

Note: Crashes occur with both Anticipatory (genetic) and Deadline.

I guess during shutdown ? Everythings works fine in my box , but I talked with Milu who had the problem during shutdown. We locate that propably is as-iosched.c in/with disc_calc_fitness error and will to eliminate it in next release or do some patch to this.

thubble : so You used SMP/HT ? . Imho the lags problems with Staircase and Reiser4 was begin since around 2.6.11-rcX, as I remember with 2.6.10 was been ok.

cheers.

My freeze was with deadline, I just left my system idle for 15 minutes (E17 and xmms open).

Btw, I just remembered that I've tried 2.6.11-rc3-ck1 before and it also hardlocked the same way - so it's possible that there's a new bug in mainline 2.6. And 2.6.10 has been rock solid for me.

emu10k1 and lirc_serial don't work.

lirc - https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2102211.html#2102211
emu10k1 - there's no alsa. only oss dsp.

but what's important - it's REALLY FAST!
