Tribes 2 for Linux

Tribes 2 is an AWESOME game, and to make it even better... there is a Linux port for it!
HOWEVER
Loki, the company that sold Tribes 2 for Linux, is out of business

It is impossible to find this amazing title anywhere now. Also, WineX has too much difficulty running Tribes 2 to make it even playable.
This is a cry for help! I can find no resellers that have a copy of this game!
If anyone can aid a Tribes junkie in his quest to obtain the Linux port of a game he legally owns multiple copies of, he would be very happy

I havent played in almost 2 years and would love to play again, someone should post to a bit torrent site since sierra has no interest in pleasing the linux community.

You've read my mind, Fizz. I know this is probably borderline illegal (sorry mods

) but the truth is, you CANNOT find the Linux version of this game ANYWHERE. If it were still in stores, that would be a different story, as we would all happily run out and buy copies of the game.. but sadly that is not the case.
So would anyone lucky enough to have a copy of this game be willing to make it available to the Linux gaming crowd via bittorrent or any other way? I'd hate to see this beautiful gem get forgotten. I'm sure all of us already have plenty of CD keys (I bought 4 copies of the windows version before I converted to Linux), so you're not giving anything up by helping the community

If you need a host or bittorrent instructions, please shoot me an email at: sinoth [at] lycos.com

This is not legal, nor is it appropriate for these forums. "Abandonware" is never legit unless permission is given.

The loki game that I would really like to get my hands on would be Alpha Centauri. If anyone has Loki's port of this great game I'd be willing to pay the full retail price for it.

unfortunetly no one carries the linux port anymore (plus it was never patched after loki died, so it's not current). Best thing i can recommend is to spend 9 bucks on the windows version and use wine or winex(i use winex and it works just fine and a decent fps).

T2 Linux HAS been patched to the latest version. You just have to download the patches.

I own the windows version of tribes2, is there a way to use this on Linux (hopefully without having to wrangle with wine)?
With quake3, I just have to copy a .pak file off the cd to make it run the full version. Is there a similar system for Tribes2?

No, you can't convert the Win32 version to Linux. Wish it worked that way, though

sigh... yes, there is a linux installer that uses the windows version cd.. and yes, it is freely available, and yes it is the latest version. don't spread FUD.

Same thing here. Seg fault... I wasn't aware there was even a patcher like this, every source I checked said you needed a linux install CD for linux tribes. *shrug* looks like we're still in that same situation..

i just for the hell of it tried another patch, the one before 25034 (25026?), and it does the same thing..

There is no windows cd installer for Tribes 2, neither will there be one. What you have just posted is the 21570 > 25034 patch for the linux version

the PATCHER with 'cdrom' in the name will PATCH your fresh linux install (from the cdrom) up to the current version. not fud.
edit: meh.

you have to search the forum for another topic, you need to find a new loki update tool (on loki ftp) and recompile it, then you replace the updater tool inside the patch with the new one, and it works ;D

Just buy the Windows version for $10 at Bestbuy and download an iso of the linux version off EDonkey network. It's not really pirating... this way you can play online

No there isn't a Linux installer for the Windows version of Tribes 2. There is a linux
server installer on the Windows CD, which Loki did as well. It just installs the linux dedicated server port for Tribes 2. Not the client side
The above link was the current patch for Tribes 2 on linux. The patches are, by the way, STILL maintained by the kind heart, and skilled programing hands of Sam Latinga (I think I'm spelling it correctly).
You are correct however, that all the places that sell games for linux are out of stock. I have a copy of it. I wish I could share it with you, it would alas be illegal EVEN THOUGH you can't find it to purchase it. With Vavendi owning the rights to it (Tribes/Starseige Universe), and them trying to sell off ALL thier game division. They would be after someone caught sharing, just because of the name. I will share this with you, if you do purchase the Windows version and SOME HOW manage to get an ISO of the linux version. The CD-Keys WILL interchange. All the CD-Key is needed for is creating an online account. There is no copy protection on the cd, and once installed isn't needed in the drive!! There is just no one to pay for the linux version and Vavendi will
NEVER sell the linux port, as it isn't thiers to sell.
Sad but true state of affairs for Tribes 2, Linux and those who love it as I do
Now if I could just get the NETMETER to work on the linux client I'd be happy and content
::EDIT:: BTW, the error you got above, is a problem with the
loki_patch which is in the above patch/script. If you do manage to get a cd and have problems patching it, just post back here and I'll give you the information to fix it
