most people probably already know about it, but there's right now 8571 unanswered posts in the forums, meaning 8571 unhappy customers. i havent been around very long to gentoo or linux in general but i try to contribute with what i can to return the favor to the community, so why not adopt an unanswered post today and (possibly) help someone out?

(that was a joke).

Odd that there are still 8571 posts on that page. I seem to recall, before the 'next page' problem was fixed, that there was actually well over 10,000.

i've noticed that too, and if you click on some of the last pages, they're empty...oh well, still plenty to pick from.

perhaps there ought to be a "unanswered post day" just like there are those bug days on the irc channel? :)

This is a really cool thought! It would be nice to make more of an effort to see that everyone gets some kind of support or response.

Every day is 'unanswered post day' for me

I agree - it would be a great way to consciously help out more people as a community.

Yeah, i noticed that too. What's up with the non existing last 3 pages of pages? I'm assuming that the DB just doesnt bother grabbing all of the search results, just the first X.... But it kind of begs the question, why even bother having those links there?

How do we start to get this thing going? What things do we need to do before we could implement this great idea? I'll be happy to help out.

Here's an idea inspired by the movie Pay it Forward. Anyone whose post gets adopted should be encouraged to adopt two unanswered posts. :D

To make it simple, a short web page or forum topic can be put up to describe the idea, and we'd point adoptees to it.

What think'st y'all?

Well, I try to do that anyway. I tend to answer questions in the newgroups no one else does. But the problem is that the reason it's not answered many times is it's not easily answered. Either it's unintelligible or just something I haven't run across yet (read: don't know the answer to).

But nice idea for you to ask folks to help them, tho I suspect many try to anyway as I do.
