|

I've recently installed gnome 2.4 ( yes, via the gnome-bmg ebuild ) and maybe removed something that I shouldn't have.
When I open my gnucash files , gnucash exits with this message :
| Code: | gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit)
aborting...
Aborted

I've tried reemerging both gnucash and gkthtml, without success.
Any suggestions ? _________________ #include "pictures.h" |

Simple error message, and simple problem : gconfd-1 wasn't running. I've started it manually and gnucash works fine again. Except it was automatic before. And I'm not sure where the problem comes from. _________________ #include "pictures.h" |

I can't get this to work...
I've run gconfd-1 manually, but when I run gnucash-1.8.4 i get the same error.

| I think this has something to do with the gtk2 USE flag. I am receiving the same errors as listed above. Gnucash launches gconfd-2 when I run it, then crashes. If I run gconfd-1 before starting gnucash, it works fine. |

This only works for me as root. If I run gconfd-1 as anyone other than root it has no effect on gnucash.
If root runs gconfd-1 and then gnucash, it works fine.

/usr/bin/gnucash is a script, so it can be edited to load gconfd-1 before loading gnucash. It would be better to have it check to see if gconfd-1 is running though.
Also, gconfd-1 doesn't return, so it needs to be loaded from the command line with gconfd-1 &. How do I implement this in a script?

Well, gnucash starts gconfd-2 instead of gconfd-1, as above, starting gconfd-1 manually solved the problem. As long as gconfd-1 and gnucash were both started by the same user (not neccessarily root) it works fine.
Anyone know why gconfd-2 is being started and how? Maybe we can short circuit it to use gconfd-1 always??
For those that are reading this because they can't even compile it. If you are running the 2.6.0-test kernel, you'll have to boot back into a 2.4 kernel and compile there (for some reason beyond my interest at this point). Compile it there then you can run it in your normal 2.6 kernel.
Regards,
Ant. |

You pretty much answered your own question. just add the line
/usr/bin/gconfd-1 &
to your /usr/bin/gnucash file
near the beginning. (I added it right after #!/bin/sh)
What I don't know is how to make it unload gconfd-1 when you are done with gnucash |

For me, if any non-root user attempts to run "gconfd-1 &" it returns immediately with "gconfd-1 ended".
Only root can execute "gconfd-1 &" and have it stay active. Of course, root then needs to run gnucash.
Any one have any ideas why? It's annoying to keep running gnucash as root. |

I'm getting the same problem, though if I run gconfd-1 it works okay. As I understand it, the differences between gconfd-1 & 2 is that they are for GTK1/2 programs.
I can start the program okay without running it, but when I tried to look at the New User tutorial (since I've not used it before) that is when it crashes. Odd.
I was looking at the gtk demo app last night, which I think uses gtkhtml, and that was okay. So I'm guessing the program lies more with the gconfd-2 => gtkhtml connection rather than some real bug in either component. _________________ Sometimes evil can be quite good. |

For whatever reason gnucash now fails to print. I've gone thru every thread on this. gconfd-1 is not starting. gconfd-2 is, and so -1 won't. If I stop -2, -1 will run, but gnucash still ddoen't print. I have tried re-emerging gnucash, gconfd-1, downgrading to gconf2-2.8.0.1. Tried running both as root.
