Install knetworkmanager

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Install knetworkmanager

Post by Thomas51 » Tue May 18, 2010 6:07 am

Hello, I'm following the installation of knetworkmanager and I have to unmask it before emerging it. So I went to /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask to copy the line, add ~86 at the end and copy all that to /etc/portage/package.keywords. It gaves me =kde-misc/knetworkmanager-4.4* ~x86. Just after that (no other command to perform?) I go to merge it again by emerge -av knetworkmanager and I get
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "kde-misc/knetworkmanager" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- kde-misc/knetworkmanager-4.4.0_p20100331 (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Theo Chatzimichos <tampakrap@gentoo.org> (26 Feb 2010)
# Mask knetworkmanager as it is crashy, unusable, under
# heavy development, and snapshot
Thank you for helping me install it.

Change the entry in /etc/ portage/package.keywords to

Code: Select all

kde-misc/knetworkmanager ~x86
that should do the trick!

Nope won't work. It's masked by portage.mask. If you really want to try it put "##" symbols (don't know the name) in front of the line in /etc/profile/package.mask (Dirty way). You need to redo it after running emerge --sync

Oops, sorry, I missed that...

I have given up one knetworkmanager and use nm-applet. Apart from the fact that this requires some gnome packages and stores the passwords on keyring, it's reliable and gives no headache with UMTS modems.

I recommend using the latest knetworkmanager-9999, they recently added automatic plasma plugin. And it is a lot more stable and has some nice additional features.

Create a file /etc/portage/package.unmask and put there the line:

Code: Select all

kde-misc/knetworkmanager

Code: Select all

man portage
package.unmask
Just like package.mask above, except here you list packages you want to unmask. Useful for overriding the global package.mask file (see above). Note that this does not override packages that are masked via KEYWORDS.
