Yay! My boss gave me a day off Wednessday so i can go to Brussels to protest against te proposed law to allow Software Patents in the EU. :D

All i need now is a catchy phrase to put on a banner! :?:
(And an english spelling checker because my english aint that good  )

I had some idea's of my own but nothing that i deemed good enough:

"Software patents kill inovation"
"Inovation cannot be patented"
"If Software patents == true then Innovation == false"

That's the best i could think off

So any talented creative ppl out there with better idea's?

How's inventing a solution to a problem using 1's and 0's different from doing it with knobs and gears?

There are good arguments for eliminating patents altogether, or at least reforming the process and rubric. Nevertheless, I find the specific distinction between "hardware" patents and "software" patents to be specious.

Hmmm, a catchy phraze

Quote:
Patent Leather---Not Software

Hey hey, ho ho, bogus patents got to go

Patently Wrong; Patently Fettering; Patently Corupt---Patented Software

These slogans are (C)2003 by Ritter von Woland, a.k.a., the Prince of Darkness. Absolutely all rights reserved.

If you use them, I expect royalties in the form of Belgian beer. If you use any other solgan that expresses similar sentiments against patented software, it will be considered derivative art, and hence subject to the assessment of the same royalties.

Oh yes, remeber---people will only get an at most 5 second glimpse of your sign. Don't make it too geeky (no one will understand) or more than one short phrase---no one will be able to finish reading it.

Good idea,

I'll keep it simple like this:

"software patents
kill innovation"

Each character on a A4 page makes 350cm x 60cm wich is do-able.

About the beer:
I only have "Kriek"... Kriek Belle-Vue, Lindemans Kriek or Mort-Subite Kriek... what do you want?

[wiping drool from my face] Yes, please! All will do nicely.

However, when you look at the cost of shipping to Alaska, you may have second thoughts about your generosity. What a lucky country, Belgium---by far the most great beer per person in the world. I love the Krieks. I love the Lambics, I love Delirium Nocturnis. Oh, don't get me started on Belgian beer!

Good luck with the protest. Please post updates here, and any pics would be appreceated.

Is anti-Microsoft sentiment over there as bad as I've heard? If so, you could cash in on that.
"Microsoft wants software patents."
or
"Software patents help us become dependant on American software companies."

IMO, that isn't such a good idea... Because the protest is against software patents, not Microsoft (it's not the same thing, you know :D). Bashing a single company will make people go :?, and then the message gets lost in all the MS bashing. It's like fighting a company (which some people happen to like), not promoting something that will benefit humanity in general...

Please add the following beers to your list: Westmalle Trappist Tripel, Hoegaarden, Verboden Vrucht and Duvel. By the way, include the original beer mugs that come with these beers, they're a piece of art. :D

Software patents forces you pay for your own innovations.

Software patents - a fasists best friend !

Software patents - because Microsoft really cares about _YOU_

Software patents - So I can copyright hyperlinks

Software patents - takes the innovation out of IT

Software patents - it's like being done in the ass by Bill Gates

Software patents - help the poor IT giants, they could really use that extra billion

Software patents - because innovation is for wimps

Software patents - combatting innovation since 2003 ?

While I tend to dislike software patents, this whole protest thing is pissing me off. Specifically, ffmpeg.sourceforge.net decided to take its site down in protest. Now that I've ripped a beautiful copy of one of my dvds to ffmpeg/ogg, I can't show my friends on their windows machines because I can't go to their site to download the codec!

grrr.

You will be redirected to swpat.ffii.org in 15 seconds for more information. To enter this site, click here.

If you klik "here" you will enter the ffmpeg/ogg site, those sites are down, but _NOT_ unreachable, they all provide a link on their protest page to enter the site, you just have to find it. :)

I know... I found the link a little after I posted. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to declare that I'm an idiot.
