|
|
I have just upgraded gnome to gnome-2.4 beta 1, and xfree to 4.3.0-r3 and can now not run applications as the logged in user from either gnome-terminal or xterm.
I get the message: Code: | alex@alex-laptop alex $ xhost +
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xhost: unable to open display ":0.0" |
I've made sure that X is not starting with -nolisten tcp but I can't think of any other options. I can run applications in gnome using <alt> + F2 though. |

Manually copying the :0.xauth file from /var/lib/gdm on to .Xauthority in my home directory solves the problem. My home directories are on an NFS server, so could this be the problem?
There's nothing in the XFree86 logs to tell me that there was a problem creating the .Xauthority file.
Obviously something has changed in the latest version of xfree or gdm that means that it tries to write the .Xauthority file as the wrong user, has anyone else seen this or is it peculiar to my set-up? |
