a2ps compile

  • Quote

Post by Kelman » Sat Aug 16, 2003 11:44 pm

I am trying to install xfce4 to use as a desktop, but it falls over when it gets to installing a2ps. The message displayed is within the .configure section of the install.

I have tried it with CFLAGS set to mcpu=athlon-tbird within make.conf, and another cflag with more optimizations.

./configure: line 3243: syntax error near unexpected token '('
./configure: line 3243: 'AC_CHECK_MEMBERS((struct passwd.pw_gecos),,,'
make: *** [config.status] error 2

I am running kernel version 2.6.0-test3

Does anyone have any tips on how to get past this error?

I'm running test3-mm as well. I had the same compile problems, i just manually emerged the older version of a2ps in portage with

Code: Select all

emerge /usr/portage/app-text/a2ps/a2ps-4.13b-r4.ebuild
worked like a charm

I think this might be not just to do with kernels actually. I have a2ps happily compiled on one machine and on this machine right next to it, with same compiler and same kernel it fails...

My thinking maybe the arch of the machines... if anyone wants to volunteer theres aswell ..?

Mine is working on Athlon XP's and P4's but not lower order Pentiums...

CFLAGS does seem to be key here. I ran into trouble emerging a2ps, found this thread, updated /etc/make.conf and tried again. I had originally left my CFLAGS unset and everything compiled nicely. It has now been updated per Safe flags to use for gentoo-1.4
