I get the following error with evolution since I installed the newest version...
| Code: |
Cannot activate component OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Mail_ShellComponent :
The error from the activation system is:
Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/INV_OBJREF:1.0'
|
and when the program loads up a bunch of icons are missing and nothing really works |

It could be a dependency failure or a compilation failure... try to reemerge evolution... |

Moved to Desktop Environments. Cheers Deathwing00.
Evolution uses CORBA? Interesting. I've obviously not looked at this mail client enough...

I'd try re-emerging ORBit2. See how that helps.

stupid question but have you tried logging out killing off all the old evolution and orbit processes and starting it all again.
that error message normally (in my experience always) means that the current running evo can not find one of the components it needs to start. |

I was getting exactly the same error messages, and managed to get Evolution to start properly without shutting down the machine or logging out:
| Code: | killall evolution-1.4
oaf-slay
bonobo-slay
ps aux | grep gconf and kill the gconfd process(es?) |
*I am running KDE, not Gnome*
also grepped for CORBA and evolution at this point but found nothing further
I could then start Evolution without problems.
Hope this helps! |
