I have had this problem for about 2 weeks now (my last emerge -u world), and I have been keeping an eye on the bug report for this, and I have not seen anyone post a resolution yet. This server is set to go production in a few days. It sure would be nice to have this fixed because I won't be able to take it down easily once it does.

If anyone knows how to beat this, I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Chris

I am getting similar error messages. Could you point us to the bug report?

Yes, slar, I get this every time I boot, before I login. I don't think it has anything to do with what is in my modules.autoload. I think it is a problem with a config script or file somewhere... but I coudln't figure it out. It is very suspicious because none of those are modularized, and everything still seems to work. I looked in the init script and in the devfsd.conf -- I went into etc and did a grep -irl "modprobe" and looked in every file that it returned... I don't know what is causing it!

The bug report is https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19608, but like I said, I have been keeping my eye on it for over 2 weeks now, and I don't see any fixes. I am afraid to update my other machines!

I hope someone has licked this... While it hasn't brought the system down, it has caused me a great deal of greif -- and sweat as the deadline approaches 8O.

Not much help here. Just wanted to add that the same thing happens on my box after the latest emerge world.

** EDIT **

Oh, you could also just disable devfsd's module auto-loading functionality entirely
by commenting out the line:

LOOKUP .* MODLOAD

in /etc/devfsd.con

This has worked for me, and all modprobe errors have gone away. Seems like a good solution unless you depend on devfsd's automatic module loading. Fortunatly, I do not
