Where is saved downloaded portage and stage3?

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

Hi I would like to ask where is saved downloade portage and stage3(using links), because after some problems I had to restart my computer and I don´t want to download it again?

And what to use to edit make.conf(or some explanation, because nano -w/mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf doesnt work there is nothing in that text file, that file is without text? or am I doing something wrong?

It is saved in whatever directory you launched links in. This may have been /home/gentoo (on the liveCD, in RAM). It could have been anywhere though.

If it was in RAM, it is lost, and you will have to download it again.

assuming you mounted a hdd partition on /mnt/gentoo, then you just have to add /mnt/gentoo before the filename it is asking you to save (after you hit 'd' to download).

The download "window" should look like this

Code: Select all

/mnt/gentoo/stage3-x86-2007.0.tar.bz2
