E-mail client for cross-platform use (dual-boot machine)

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

E-mail client for cross-platform use (dual-boot machine)

I'm looking for a good e-mail client. As open ended as that query may be, I have a few stipulations:

1) It has to support IMAP.
2) It has to be cross-platform -- I run both Windows and Linux on this machine, and don't really want two clients if I don't need it.

Thunderbird would be the obvious choice, but I'm growing tired of its quirkiness. There are tiny little annoyances that I have grown to dislike.

If I must, I might switch to Evolution in Linux...and find something else for windows. But I'd really like to avoid having two different programs. Currently I run Thunderbird in both.

I thought I remember there being a version of Evolution for Windows...

http://shellter.sourceforge.net/evolution/

I'm not sure how stable it is as I've not tested but it might be worth looking
at if you're tired of Thunderbird.

Good tip. I'll keep an eye on that. But I downloaded and tried it out, and it's very buggy. I get lots of errors starting up, and then it doesn't render properly.

as you didn't ask for a GUI: mutt (via cygwin on windows), there's also a (beta) native win32-based mutt

Thunderbird/seamonkey, (al)pine, or mulberry if IMAP, cross-platform, and stability are priorities. Mulberry is proprietary but gratis. alpine is the classic pine under the Apache license. Since I prefer F/OSS, I use alpine + thunderbird. I've use seamonkey off-and-on. I prefer their community over TB's corporate development. However, TB's new features often draw me away. I used to use mulberry. If you are O.K. with proprietary software, it is a great IMAP client.

What would those be?

probably slightly offtopic, but last I've heard Mulberry was opensourced (probably two weeks ago), it was on heise.de.

would be really nice to see the list of imap-clients completed
Unix is user friendly, it's just very picky about who its friends are.

With kde4 being available on more platforms also kdepim and so kmail are available.
I did not try kmail on windows yet, but since about 2 weeks i have absolutely no problem using nearly-daily svn-builds on Linux.
I'm using web.de and gmx.de with IMAP!
