(rant)
Ohh, and just to let you know, I am going to be buying a new machine soon, and an ATI card is not on the agenda! They managed to get in my bad books when they announced that they were going to start producing linux drivers for their cards, provided you had a 9500+. I bought my radeon whilst ATI were still struggling against nVidia, and I will be damned if I continue to buy their products when they ignore my need for quality linux drivers!
(/rant)
Sorry about that, I just feel really strongly about ATI's attitude towards its customers, and I am planning on getting one of the new nVidia cards.

well .. the 7000 is an older r100 core, and the 8500 I use is an r200. This accounts for a lot of speed. I dont know why you're slower than the other ati7000 tho .. maybe you have a lower-grade 3rd party card which **uses** the ATI r100 chip, but skimps on RAM etc? |

I have a Radeon VE (R100). ~600 fps is right on target for glxgears. Unfortunately, the R100 is a glorified Rage Pro. _________________ "We who are about to die salute you!" |

please don't write in all caps, it's rude.
I would add my scores, but I just replaced my Radeon 7500 with a GeForce4 TI-4280 |

On an nForce2/Athlon 2800XP+/ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and I'm getting about 5000 fps with gaming-sources, an kernel patch to make agpgart work, and ati-sources. It's pretty good, but I'm trying to make it even faster
Any suggestions? |

2.5 kernels would provide a nice boost (atleast to responsivness, maybe not to glxgears though), unfortunatly ati-drivers doesen't work on that kernel yet :/ |

AMD Athlon XP 2100+
512 MB DDR
Radeon 8500
XFree 4.3.0-r2
driver: radeon-20030518 from http://dri.sf.net
glxgears tested on 1152 x 864 @ 24bpp
gaming-sources-r3: 8500 FPS
gentoo-sources-r5: 8400 FPS
as u can see, the difference is small...
oh yeah... i tried gaming sources on XFree 4.3.0-r3 a while ago, i remember i got around 10,000 FPS in glxgears.. i'll switch back to XFree r3 when it's marked stable/unstable. (now it's still in package.mask) _________________ AthlonXP 2100+ :: 512 MB DDR :: Radeon 8500 (128mb) :: Sound Blaster Audigy
