|
|
Just wanted to share the solution to the problem for me, since I could not find it on the gentoo forums and a few other people seem to have similar trouble.
I recompiled my kernel and rebooted and got hit with:
Quote: |
Uncompressing Linux...
invalid compressed format (err=2)
-- System halted
|
I tried to recompile a few more times, searched for help here, tried to revert back to old kernel, etc and nothing worked.
After some thinking I realized might be a problem with my bootloader.
So After I recompiled I ran /sbin/lilo and rebooted and everything worked!
So maybe if someone else is having this problem rerunning lilo may help you. |

When you first installed your system and configured lilo, did you run the lilo command? Everytime you make any change to lilo.conf you have to run the lilo command for the changes to take effect.
From Gentoo Install guide
Quote: |
After you have edited your lilo.conf file, it is time to run LILO to load the information into the MBR:
Code listing 23.7: Running LILO
# /sbin/lilo
|
Do you think may be you just overlooked that one line and forgot to run lilo |

Yes. This was the problem for me. After you make a recomplitation, you have to exute lilo. It seems it doesn´t matter if you don´t touch the lilo.conf, when you change the kernel in the boot partition you have to rexecute lilo.
Thank you very much. I had the same problem when I try to recompile the kernel. |

Thanks , this was also the solution for me ;
I configured LILO on a first attempt to compile my kernel.
I had to redo this (of coarse , but ended with this "invalid compressed format (err=2)
message .
After running /sbin/lilo again , the boot was successfull . |
