Ok, If you'll notice, why is xmms (I have narrowed it down to that specific package anyways) wanting to downgrade my gtk+ to version 1.2.10? Is there any way to force portage to NOT downgrade a package? I'm having an issue upgrading world with various other packages... (blackdown-1.4.1, mozilla-1.3, etc)
Anyone know something about this? _________________ In the end, the love you get is equal to the love you make

I am pretty sure it will not remove your gtk2 version 2.2.1.
XMMS still uses gtk1, and your update of XMMS wants to upgrade that version to 1.2.10-r10.
GTK is one of those packages that have multiple versions installed side by side (in what portage calls slots). It can independently maintain/upgrade the versions of such a slotted package (usually these are packages with an older and newer version, where the newer version has an incompatible interface).
Unfortunately the printed output of emerge does not take these slots into account; its presents you with a "downgrade" of GTK, but it will not do this...
Perhaps something that can be changed in future versions of portage (taking slots into account in the printed output of emerge)... |

| Oh, and the sys-devel/m4 is a real downgrade. The 1.4p version was recently masked in the package mask...; see comment in the package.mask file. |
