Hi,

i just finished emerging kde3.1.1. Before that i used kde3.1 and (before) kde3.0. KDM comes up--> i give the login and the password and i can can choose kde3.1.1 from the login menu. But when i login kde3.0 starts up. Even if i choose kde3.1 from the menu kde3.0 starts.

I already did etc-update, but nothing changed.

What can i do??? :?:

Thanks, gudentach12

Hi gudentach12

Check in /etc/X11/Session. You should have a couple of files there. Make sure /etc/X11/Session/kde-3.1.1 has the following stuff in it:
Code:

#!/bin/sh
/usr/kde/3.1/bin/startkde

hi,

i just checked the two Session files kde-3.1 and kde-3.1.1. They both have the lines you meant me to look for. So it must be another mistake.

thanks, gudentach12

Did you have emerged the latest kdelibs-3.0.x & kdebase-3.0.x? If not, do so.

I have had this same problem with both 3.1 and 3.1.1. When I try to log in using either of them, it starts 3.0 (3.0 splash screen), but it is a broken 3.0 ... the menu has no applications, none of the front panel buttons work etc etc.

I had this problem and I found that in /etc/env.d I had files like 65kdelibs-3.0.5a and other 'old' kde environment files. I moved those files out and ran env-update and everything worked well.

Those old environment files were setting $KDEDIR to /usr/kde/3 and $QTDIR to something old and no longer around.

thanks for your replies,

i solved the problem by unmerging die old kde3.0.4 files.

use qpkg -i -v | grep kde --> then unmerge the old kde files. After that everything should work fine.

Same here. I fixed the problem (or at least worked around it, I suppose it is not really fixed) by doing the following:

Code:
# cd /etc/env.d
# mv 50kdedir-3.0.5a _50kdedir-3.0.5a
# mv 65kdelibs-3.0.5a _50kdedir-3.0.5a
# env-update

Then I restarted X (CTRL+ALT+Backspace) and logged into 3.1.1 no problem.
