|
|
Hey everyone,
I just spent the last few hours trying to get dvd::rip to work properly. I finally figured out what was wrong.
The following are some steps to follow if you are getting the following error, even though there is a DVD in the drive, and you can play the DVD with progs like mplayer:
Quote: |
Can't read DVD TOC. Please put a disk into your drive.
Internal message was:
No DVD found at /dev/dvd

If you are running some unstable ebuilds, and have libdvdread 0.9.4 installed, you must downgrade to 0.9.3. However, AFTER doing that, you will also need to re-emerge transcode.
Hope this saves someone the time it took me to figure it out. Happy ripping! |

Thanks for your tip! I was about to follow it precisely, when I thought I'd try just the re-emerge of transcode first, on my fully '~x86' system.
The short answer is that the re-emerge of transcode alone got it working!! (ymmv)
Many Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

While the "simple" re-emerge of transcode _did_ get me past the ~'can't read TOC' error, all was not well. I was able to rip, but couldn't stop a rip and then have it successfully restart. Some rips stopped for no apparent reason.
Am trying it your way. Will update, but is looking much better so far with libdvdread-0.9.3. |

While a re-emerge of transcode did give some functionality with libdvdread-0.9.4, it had definite problems, and should be (imho) masked.
Ripping a second track would (if it worked at all) max out the cpu. It was like the dvd wasn't being reset in some way after the first rip. Normal ripping uses some, but still negligable amunts of cpu grunt.
Some rips would fail with partial completion.
As per red_over_blue's original post, revert to libdvdread-0.9.3, re-emerge transcode, and you should be set. Worked for me. |

I KNOW this is a VERY old post, but damn...
It helped me out a LOT!!!! Appearantly the issues still aren't fixed, but downgrading libdvdread and re-emerging transcode fixed all the problems...
Gonna rip me a Fawlty Towers DVD now
thanks again m8!!! |
