In my never ending quest to find the right window manager, I stumbled on oroborus. I emerged it and the "extras" and eveything seemed fine but when I startx I get a plain blank screen. And none of the extras like desklaunch, deskmeu work despite following instructions for creating the .deskmenurc .desklaunchrc and .oroborus files in my home directory.

Anyone out there use any of these and do you have solutions?

I take it that you have added the necessary icons etc to the config files?

If so, try to strace the startup process (emerge strace if you don't have it installed).

Edit your .xinitrc file and change your oroburus startcommand to:
strace -ff -o oroborus-trace oroburus

Save it and run startx again. This will create one or more files that starts with oraoburus-trace in your current directory. Maybe those tracefiles can shed some light to as why not the screen looks like you want it o.

Quote:
strace -ff -o oroborus-trace oroburus

I tried that and X exits with an error. I get strace: orobus: comman not found.

Well, maybe this is just a sign that this program is not for me. There doesnt seem to be that many people who use it.

Thanks for the help

Well, it looks like the oroborus program is not in your path.

Make sure it is installed and that you can find it from the command prompt:
type oroborus

This should return the complete PATh to your program.
