Im a total Rpg fanatic (love the old rpgs like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana,SOM2,asf..) and just some days ago succesfully and completly switched to Linux

What games are avaiable/ported ? Which emulators exist ?
Last but not least : What are your favourite RPGs on Linux/Gentoo?

emerge zsnes and emerge nwn...note that nwn takes some extra steps. I don't remember where, but you can find a program that will extract the needed resource files from the cd...otherwise you have to download a 1.1 Gb file or copy what is needed from a windows partition.

Planeshift is very fun, and its just had the latest update so it now has monsters and experience in it

Note though that PS is still in the early beta stages, it is playable, but its by no means a fully developed RPG yet.
Nethack is also one of the best, if youre partial to good old console ASCII graphics
With an emulator, you can play all the good old console RPGs, and quite a few of the Playstation ones like FF7, the Chrono Trigger sequal, Grandia etc...

I just got ZSNES:
Runs super-smooth and Lufia : Rise of Sinistrals is started

Planeshift and Nethack sound great,
im gonna check them out tommorow..
Which Playstation emulator would you advise me to use, i never tried them because i thought the perfomance would suck on my card.. ?
Wow i would love to play the sequel to Chrono Trigger, and wow Grandia II which is only for DC i think..

I find Morrowind to be one of the best RPGs ever, that is the whole Elders Scrolls series is incredible.

Grandia 2 isnt anywhere near as good as Grandia, so youre not missing out on too much.
The Baldur's Gate series run really nice under Wine, so if youre into the D&D stylee games, Id look at them.
Also, the websites for PS and Nethack so you can find them
Planeshift and
Nethack
As far as playstation emulators go, your only real good choice for a native linux one is ePSXe. I believe that it also runs nicely through wine, but I havnt tested that to see.

Well, this one will probably be right up your alley when it's completed.
http://themanaworld.sourceforge.net/
It's a MMORPG using Secret Of Mana's graphics and gameplay style. It's still very early at this point and is not in portage yet.
ADOM is indeed in portage.

If you do the NWN install through emerge does it ask for the serials? I'm installing UT2k4 and I left it at the last disc and it hadn't asked for my serial yet so I'm wondering if I'll need to dig out my serial for NWN.

You can install it without the serial. But when you start it for the first time, the games will aks you to enter the serial number.

It you were too slow on win, you will probably be the same in linux. If you decide to try it though, go to bioware.com and check in the NWN forums for the linux forum. They have a sticky on how to install nwn. The emerge isn't the best way to go in this particular instance if you have nwn platnum or gold.

What's your card? I use "epsxe", and the only alternative I know of is "pcsx".
If you happen to get ahold of a copy of Ultima7(one or two), then you can play them with exult. You can also play Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 with "Underworld Adventures"(
http://uwadv.sourceforge.net/).
http://low.sourceforge.net/ was a very promising project recreating Ultima Underworld 2 but it seems kind of dead. There are various other Ultima ports like XU4 too. There are also some nethack remakes that have updated graphics and stuff, but you'd have to look for them. This company was recreating Ultima 1 with superb graphics, and you can still probably get the tech demo, but they changed the name of the project to era, and I'm not sure what they're doing now. You can find that at
http://peroxide.dk/ultima.shtml. You can search portage by manually looking at your portage directories at /usr/portage or you can type "emerge -s (string)" or you can go to packages.gentoo.org and search there or you can go to gentoo-portage.com. I think gentoo-portage.com usually has the best information, but sometimes it's really slow. You can also check freshmeat.net or sourceforge.net. You can also check linuxgames.com or linux-gamers.net.
Btw, Secret of Mana is the best.

So, zsnes is a good super nintendo emulator, but is there a good one for the good ol' NES?

fceultra is the best NES emulator right now.
