I'm just about to setup a new 2004.3 system and want to use Reiser4 for /boot and /.

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to boot from a Reiser4 partition yet ?

The last time I tried this (Using 2004.2) it wasn't possible.

You need to patch grub for that. I would suggest you use some other filesystem for /boot. Reiser4 for /boot doesn't really give you any performance push.

Do I like to compile everything?
Positive definite!

Just use ext2 or 3. Because /boot is a read-only filesystem, so it's not likely to get damaged. in fact, I think it even gets unmounted as / gets mounted, since the kernel is already in memory by that time. So, journaling isn't really necessary. ext2 is fine.
