hi to all,

after spending all afternoon trying to capture my miniDV videos (video+SOUND... this was the trickiest thing) with my PCTV Pro i finally got it! :D

but i have a problem...

i'm using XawTV (i found it after long searchs in the forum :P ) but i can't change the screen size (record movie > screen size) so it's at 384x288 that is way too low, and video quality suffers with it... i wanted to put it at 740x580, or something similar.

anyone know how to do it?!

tks for ur help,

enok

You can set the aspect if you use mencoder to record. I haven't recorded any tv from my card for a long time so you will have to take a look at the mencoder (mplayer) man page.

Man, sorry ... I forgot about this post. I guess it is a bit late now but did you get mencoder working?

I am also trying to record composite video and have gotten error messages very similar to what you posted. Have you, in the meantime, gotten things to work? I really hate having to boot into windows just to record video :(

Hi!

Change driver to v4l2 and use the input argument for mencoder:

Code:
mencoder -tv driver=v4l2:input={some number, usually 0, 1, 2, default is 0 for tuner}:width=768:height=576 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=900 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=190 -vf crop=720:544:24:16,pp=lb -o teste.avi tv://

edit*

You could try:
Code:
mencoder tv://  -tv driver=v4l2:input={some number as above}:norm={only needed if capture is from tuner, pal, ntsc}:channel={only needed if capture is from tuner}:chanlist={only needed if capture is from tuner}:width=768:height=576:outfmt={quality for recording, yuy2 is good}:device=/dev/video:adevice={This depends on your source, could be /dev/dsp or /dev/dsp1}:audiorate=44100:forceaudio:forcechan={mono, stereo, 0 or 1}:buffersize=64 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate={video quality setting, higher better, maybe 1200 or more}:keyint=30 -oac mp3lame -lameopts br=128:cbr:mode=3 -ffourcc xvid -endpos {how long time do you want to record} -o {filename}
