|
|
This is a repost of a problem that is (partially) fixed, but still confused me.
This is the problem:
#emerge quanta
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) app-editors/quanta-3.2.3 to /
>>> Resuming download...
>>> Downloading http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/quanta-3.2.3.tar.bz2
--13:23:12-- http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/quanta-3.2.3.tar.bz2
=> `/usr/portage/distfiles/quanta-3.2.3.tar.bz2'
Resolving gentoo.osuosl.org... 1.0.0.0
Connecting to gentoo.osuosl.org[1.0.0.0]:80...
Now, I can ping gentoo.osuosl.org, and it resolves itself just fine. Also, I can reboot my router, which will sometimes fix it if it is broken, or break it if it is fixed. It does not break/fix itself unless the router goes down. (Which, sadly, is frequent.)
My question(s) are, why is this happening? Is it a problem with my router, and how do I fix it?
Since I can resolve the host name myself, is there a way to tell emerge to connect to that directly, or perhaps even choose a different mirror? |

Arg. Alright, I put the appropriate entry in /etc/hosts and that seems to work. Why does posting always make me see the answers to my own dumb questions?
Still, if anyone knows why this is going on, I would appreciate it. |
