Just wanted to know if anyone was having problems getting their network up with the 2004.3 mini LiveCD. It loads the RealTek 8139 module and I've maually configured my card for static IP (I don't use DHCP on my router) but for some reason I cannot ping anything. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

"ifconfig" shows both interfaces up?

It shows eth0 and lo if that's what you mean. I know it's not a hardware problem either (at least with my card) because I'm online now using the Kanotix LiveCD. I would just use this CD or 2004.2, but I'm following ali3nx's tutorial on NPTL and I want to do it "by the book" because whenever I stray off track, something borks. Again, thanks in advance.

One thing I just remembered was that one time when I was re-configuring my ethernet card hoping for different results, I got an arror along the lines of:
Code:
IRQ 16: Nobody cared!

A Google search returns similar problems fixed by passing acpi=off at boot. Here goes nothing!

my laptop uses the same module, r8169. While I have not tried the latest gentoo livecd, I installed gentoo on my laptop with ali3nx's directions and a knoppix cd. I booted via text mode and used the knoppix26 kernel I think it is with no problem. The only problem I had was mounting /dev so I skipped it.

It looks like you have an interface, how about trying " links2 http://www.gentoo.org" ? Maybe the problem is with ping?

Any followup on this?

I am also getting IRQ 16 disabled messages resulting in a non functioning network card. I can set an IP and even change the speed which shows up fine on the switch however it doesnt appear any data will travel over the link :(

I'm pretty sure because the IRQ is disabled. I did a quick install of FEDORA 3 and it worked fine with the same driver :(
