Hi folks,

I try to run startx, and it bombs with an error about being unable to open libXaw.so.8. Enterprising person that I am, I search and find nothing on the net about it. I search my flies and there is no libXaw.so.8 I have .7, and tried creating a link from 7 to 8 (suggested in Archlinux forums,) but to no avail.

Does anyone know why I might be getting this, or where I could come up with this library to resolve this?

I am runnning XFree 4.3.0.1 on the 2.6.9-r1 kernel.

Thanks!!

Hi !

I just solved the problem a few minutes ago !
I found the answer in the german forums :
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=242083&highlight=libxaw

Apparently re emerging xterm solves the problem ! it's that simple :D

Have you by any chance emerged the ati-drivers before installing xorg ?

Anyway I hope this solves your problem !

Thank you for the response!

Actually, I had some weird conflict with xorg not being completely removed. I didn't resolve the exact issue, but I did remove xfree and go back to xorg (once I figured out how to configure it and use it.)

Nothing on the ATI drivers -- one rig with MSI GeForce FX57000, the other with Intel eXtreme 84825G integrated.

Thanks again!
