|
|
http://www.frostwarning.com/~quagseven/gentoographics.php
(Fixed URL 4.5 years later because people still link to these, which has been 404 for a long time. Back up now though - note, these banners were made when I had, a few hours with The GIMP and were a learning exercise, so don't expect much! Also, I think I was a little...intoxicated when I made them, hence the silliness - 2007-May-09).
---
I am *not* a graphic artist, and most of these were a result of experimenting with (and learning to use) Blender and The GIMP. Some of them turned out alright, though. Some of them are silly.
Some of them can be resized smaller and still look okay; at any rate the PSD source is included with most of them (you can edit these, with all layers intact, with The GIMP).
Don't know if anyone will like them, but I figured I'd put a pointer since there don't seem to be many banners for Gentoo. Some of them are rather large.
All are free for unrestricted use, if you want to pull parts of them out and use them for other things.
Thanks to mksoft for the Blender model of the Gentoo logo (that's how I rotated it a bit to the side for the 3-D look on some of them).
Hopefully they will be of some use to someone... _________________ http://www.dataswamp.net

Nice work!
I really like the grey logo on the starry background.

Wow! Great work.
My favourite? Oh - that's nice asking that.
The best one for me is in the black background in the 2nd line, left side. This is so... cute. So retro. I love that.
Emerge the future is the best slogan, though. |

Glad they weren't universally hated! I added 2 more - one for transparent/light backgrounds, and one for black with "Emerge the Future."
As for Blender - I stumbled around with it myself and I'm still a total newbie. Still I was able to move the light around a little bit, and change the basic texture (reflectance and specularity, both of which give a more metallic or plastic look depending on how they are set).
Best thing to do is to load a pre-created scene, and just mess around with it. A good way to start. Still, it's a lot less intuitive than, say, Truespace is (a Windows raytracer). It could just be old habits on my part though.
Thanks for the comments!

It's either PSD or XCF, guess which is more popular... |

What's the license you are using, if you don't mind me asking?
EDIT sorry, I guess it is " Feel free to modify them, re-distribute them, whatever." |

Haven't considered a license for something so trivial - they're free to do with as anyone pleases.
I only used PSD because it was the first format I found in the The Gimp that preserved the layers and so forth. However, they were all created in The Gimp and Blender, and saved in The Gimp.
Is there another format which will preserve all this that's more open-sourceish? _________________ http://www.dataswamp.net |
