I downgraded my xorg from 6.8 back to 6.7 to get DRI back with my ATI card, i also emerged gnome 2.8 right before i did that. Now, all my control center utils dont start, giving me this:

Code:
gnome-theme-manager: error while loading shared libraries: libXcomposite.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I dont understand why its still linked against the composite lib. I tried emerging a previous version, same thing. It seems to only do this for the control center utils, everything else works fine.
I tried revdep-rebuild and it actually found some of the inconsistencies, but of course wasnt able to fix it, as it was just trying to reemerge certain things. i tried some USE flags, but that lib is just a lib, right, it's not a package?

How do I recompile those without linking to that lib? I looked through the config file and found no reference to this.

I guess going back up to 6.8 would do it, but i want my fglrx DRI.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Try using revdep-rebuild from the gentoolkit package to rebuild dependencies.

as I said, I tried it and it doesnt work. It's not really a usual dependancy problem per se.

The only way to do it would be to rebuild the packages that contain the binary giving you the error.. for instance... I believe there is a binary called gnome-control or something like that that handles your control center stuff.... So...

If you have gentoolkit installed do a
Code:
qpkg -f /path/to/gnome-control

then re-emerge the package....do that for any files that give you errors.. and it should fix your problem...

sorry its prolly not a quick fix :(

XFree -> Xorg -> XFree really makes of mess of the shared libraries.

Some of the shares (.so.N) libraries 'disappear', but the .a's are present.

* Command used to change .a files to .so files i.e. libXinerama.so.1 missing shared library issue.

ld -whole-archive -share -o xxxx.so.1 xxxx.a
ln -s xxxx.so.1 xxxx.so
