Whenever I start k3b, it crashes immediatelly when I start a data cd project or when I try to change some settings in the burning dialog. I'm using kde3.3, k3b-0.11.12-r1, gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4 on an AMD64, but I had the same problems with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7... It's really annoying, cause it's absolutely impossible to burn CDs using k3b...

There is already a similar bugreport in KDE's bugzilla:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74622

I also posted a bugreport here:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65389

Hi there!

I had the same problem once although I can't promise it's for the same reason:
It was caused by a stored path (used for adding files before last time quitting k3b). Deleting that part of k3b config files (don't remember which one, but you can also delete all of them) worked. I'm not sure if and/or in which version this error is fixed. In any way, you could try to upgrade k3b first!

Also, take the opputunity to set a debug use flag and 'nostrip' in features- I think your beacktraces of the newly compiled k3b will become more useful then.

Sebastian

edit: sorry, didn*t read properly (my problem was a k3b crash just at the start, the path-problem). anyway, trying a new version with debug support remains

I just tried k3b-0.11.17 and it seems to be much more stable than the old version. It crashed once (with the same backtrace, useflag "debug" is set) but it was possible to run a burning simulation :)

Thank you. I will test it tomorrow really.

I have a problem with K3B.

I have placed a cd-r in the burner, but k3b doesn't realize it is there.

Any suggestions?

It's still impossible to burn CDs, even with the most actual version of k3b. It's seems to be a bit more stable, but it always crashes before starting to burn...

The backtrace ist still the same, although I used USE="debug" FEATURES="nostrip". What do you think about lowering the cflags?

I recompiled k3b with
Code:
CFLAGS="-O0 -ggdb3"
and
Code:
USE="debug" FEATURES="nostrip" emerge -v k3b
but i still get the same problems and no useful backtrace...

Do you have any more ideas? Very strange...

I just noticed that these extreme stability problems only occure if k3b is started out of kde (3.3). If it's started out of XFCE4 and XSession it workes absolutely fine - with the same user und config...

Any ideas???
