Ok, this is really another one of those screenies posts. *sigh another. yes, but with a difference. hehe, Ive been looking at the new xorg extensions 'composite' and 'damage' over at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=209039&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 .
Its quite clear, that there will be a whole new visual explosion on the linux desktop once window managers start to implement these extensions properly. xcompmgr is rather buggy at the moment but gives a taste of whats to come.
So Post up screenies (videos) of your desktops, lets see what window managers are using these functions best and what sort of eye candy all you gentoo freaks can come up with :D

you can emerge xvidcap to make movies, use the ~/.xvidcap.scf at http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Xvidcap.
and run
Code:
mencoder capture-01.mpg -vf scale -zoom -xy 512 -fps 11 -o funky-desktop.avi -ovc xvid

to encode the move

I'll get the ball roling

Does the new xserver feel `snappier' with these extra extensions? I was watching your cpu level on gkrellm, and they barely went above 30%. Glad to see they're finally offloading some stuff onto the gpu.

Yeah, it's snappier. I'm running the X 6.8-rc3, and it's pretty damn slick. [/url=http://www.carrieandbrian.info/Screenshot.png]Here[/url] is a picture of what I gots.

I have an nVidia GeForce FX5600, and the RENDER extension is what offloads the processing to the GPU. I'm not sure how good ATI support is, but I've seen some posts where people were having problems. nVidia is working on making everything stable with the new X release.

BTW, what do you guys think -- since Xorg is now the de facto standard for most distros, why don't we just start calling it X officially? Everybody calls it Xorg, but I like just X.

X X X X X X X X. The X Window System. These guys kick ass. :)

I usually call it X but sometimes people get confused.

Available codecs:
copy     - frame copy, without re-encoding. doesn't work with filters!

raw      - uncompressed video. Use fourcc option to set format explicitly.
   nuv      - nuppel video
divx4    - using divx4linux/divx5linux lib (depends on configuration)
lavc     - using libavcodec codecs - best quality!
vfw      - using VfW DLLs, currently only AVID is supported
qtvideo  - using QuickTime DLLs, currently only SVQ1/3 are supported
libdv    - DV encoding using libdv v0.9.5

Exiting... (error parsing cmdline)

unless u guys want to dload a 28mb file at 30kbytes from my home server.. then just let me finish uploading it

aye, but remember grabbing 25 fps at 1240x1024 goes heavy on the cpu too ;)
in reality its much faster than xfree, even with xcompmgr enabled.

You didn't mention the great Hideo Kojima's role. Though, very tiny, tiny.
